Hello all, I just signed up for the forum last week and am already learning loads about language learning!!
Seems like a great community of very knowledgeable and helpful posters!!

I'm currently learning Spanish, and hope to some day learn several other languages!! My wife was born in The Dominican Republic and is fluent in English and Spanish, however most of her family speaks very little English (this is a big motivation to learn). I look forward to being able to hear stories and have conversations with my in-laws and the rest of my wife's family with out her being present and having to translate for us!
I'm also looking forward to being able to visit DR as well as many other Spanish speaking countries and enjoying them more by knowing the language.

Anyways thanks in advance to all those who actively post I look forward to learning more about languages and joining this great community.

Welcome to the forum! Having a spouse fluent in another language is a great motivator.

I'm going to tell her to just stop speaking English to me, make me figure it out!!

I also miss our old neighborhood in NYC it was almost all Dominicans didn't take enough advantage of it, was too shy to speak much Spanish with them in stores and on the streets.

Lucky you, I don't have anyone who is proficient in a foreign language.
Only one uncle, but he's very far away...

Good luck and make the most of it. :)

Welcome to the forum. It is great in every way, the only catch is that it is addictive...

Welcome to the forum!

As Solfrid Cristin says, this forum is fantastic and you'll learn loads from the
community here, but it is very addictive and if you're not careful, you may spend more
time here discussing language learning than offline actually learning them.

A discussion about that is definitely well worth having, but my girlfriend was unable
to cut out English with me entirely at the beginning, even though my French was good
enough to understand mostly everything but the belgicisms she often uses. Perhaps your
wife's mentality will be different, and I hope it is, but up until now, presumably the
language of your relationship has been English, so it may take a while and a fair bit
of persistence to change that.

Buena suerte con tu estudio del español.
