Is anyone going to be watching this tonight? Have you ever used this event to learn languages?

I started watching from a young age and I think it influenced my interest in languages. I remember recording the show and learning the lyrics of the languages I liked, namely Spanish.

Unfortunately, most countries send their entries in English these days.

I'm watching it now, and used to listen carefully to all the languages. Like you, I am sad that they almost all sing in English now. I also recorded some of the songs with my tape recorder to learn them. I am now listening to the Romainians who sing mainly in Spanish, with some English, and something I do not understand. Romanian presumably.

It's boring, there's absolutely no reason to watch any more as it seems to be 90% just
generic pop music. At least before it was generic pop music in a foreign
language.

I always used to watch it as a child and I think it certainly played a big part in my realizing that "Ooh there are
all these amazing countries with cool names!". I also remember a very fun night watching Eurovision with my
mates in Vienna with drinking games, bets on which country would win, and general all round hilarity. Ah,
memories....

Unsurprisingly here in Japan most people have never even heard of it, so it's a bit off my radar now. Still, if
Georgia were to win I think it would be worth a trip to Tbilisi.

Azerbaijan put on a good show!

Be honest, guys: How many of you now have the urge to take a trip to Baku? I know I do!

Totally! It looks beautiful. And it's right next to Georgia, where I'm planning to go anyway. Perfect! :)

I have devoted many hours every day over several years to my passion for language learning, but even my love of languages is not strong enough to compel me to watch this.
