James Whinnery is a 19-year-old from Birmingham who studied Arabic from scratch over a period of 19 weeks for a TV challenge. This was part of a talent show competition, where he won the opportunity to receive intensive lessons in the UK with the School of Oriental and African Studies, and then live in Jordan to further study, immerse and work in Arabic. At the end of the challenge, he was invited as a guest on a Jordanian morning TV show. I won't say anymore, as I don't want to include any further spoilers. ;)
Here's the Ch4 TV programme about his challenge (which should be availble for the next 5 days): "Hidden Talent, Series 1, Episode 3" (if it isn't available outside the UK, you could also try the Hidden Talent - 4odDocumentaries YouTube channel).

Sounds great, but neither of those links work in Europe, not even Youtube.
I think we're going to need those spoilers after all.

If you live outside the UK, you'll need to use a proxy server unfortunately. Not sure of any free ones out there, can recommend FoxyProxy though which has worked well for me in the past when I was in Norway.
Edit: Watched it now, pretty nice programme.

Shame about the links not working outside the UK... Another idea might be to try and type "hidden talent" (perhaps with or without the words "episode 3") in YouTube - fingers crossed.

For the benefit of the forum, I might just don my pirate hat, download the youtube video and upload it to some other hosting service with a name which won't immediately attract the attention of channel 4 to take the thing down.
Not much else to do today I suppose. Here goes...
Edit: Unfortunately the free software I have for downloading videos just won't work with either the youtube link or 4od link. Seem Channel 4 use some sophisticated DRM. One thing they can't stop though, screen capture software! Will mean watching the thing again but so be it.

Aggh, sorry folks, won't be able to get this uploaded for you after all. My laptop soundcard is not working properly and I can't record audio through the stereo mix.The only download software I've found which works I'd have to pay $25 for (TubeDigger). The trial version only allows you to download the first half of a video which isn't much use. None of the older cracked versions of it work anymore.
I've done some research though and can provide you with a free means of being able to watch the show on the 4od website or youtube and will mean downloading and installing software, but I can confirm this is legit and not some virus laden scam.
YouTube Instructional Video
Tor Project
Hope this helps.

That was a cool video! I would like to see more about this young man- I hope he has
opportunities to develop his talents now that the support of Channel 4 is gone.
Who else watched it?
