Forgive me if this is OT.
In a movie I saw a scene where a woman asks a man if he believes in destiny when meeting someone (soulamte). He asnwered "No I don't. I believe it is all ******. People meet because they happen to be in the right place at the right time."
There is a word describing this incidence. I just can't seem to remember it. Does anyone know it?
The word is not: coincidence, chance, synchronicity or...it's a small world.

Karma?
I've heard the word used in the way you've described it.
(not Latin though)
NOUN:

2. Fate; destiny.
3. Informal A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling: There's bad karma around the house today.
ETYMOLOGY:
Sanskrit, deed, action that has consequences, karma; see kwer- in Indo-European roots

Fate, karma, synchronicity cannot be right, because they are more or less synonyms to destiny. The guy says that he does not believe in that. Instead:

Sounds like a mathematician to me. From a calculus of probability point of view this is perfectly correct. People tend to think that unlikely events contradict probablility, but they actually support it. The funniest thing is, though, that it's often scientifically inclined people who insist on the reality of free will, whereas there is no room for it in science at all. All scientific models strive for deterministic descriptions. Man is a pack of contradictions.
BTW, I have no clue what that word could be.
