Yes, they are derived from those two, but their common meanings do not follow from the derivation--that's why I chose them as examples. :) For instance, "mercurial" does not generally mean "like mercury, the element." It usually means fickle or capricious. "Phlegmatic" does not usually mean "full of phlegm," but rather "dull, torpid, lethargic."
