You could try reading old Japanese literature. The archaic idiom might give you a feeling of novelty while improving your Japanese.

It's funny that you mention this because I feel the same way. I studied Spanish throughout high school and now in college and I am always looking to improve, learn just one more word, or become as immersed as possible.
But then I look at a language like French which is similar to Spanish and I think that since I already know Spanish, French would be a natural addition. I'm always looking at French grammar and such, but everytime I think "Why am I looking at this when there more Spanish to learn."
Recently, I've looked at German and thought that it just looks amazing and different than Spanish. But again I always go back to Spanish thinking I could be better.

However, sometimes I suffer from the inferiority complex that I dont know enough languages and get the urge to add another. I am really mad about languages.
But falling into a state of wanderlust would only divert attention away from my Japanese. I feel I have to perfect my Japanese. No matter how big improvements I get, I always want to improve it more and more.

All of that you mentioned is also on my mind....it's almost an obsession...I usually pop into mall bookstores to check out grammar books and dictionaries even in other languages that I'm flirting and thinking of studying afterwards....at some local universities there are some teachers who offer private classes either in German or Italian, for instance....but I still find it silly to divert from my main goals that actually are improving my English and Spanish....like you said I'd like to master more and more languages as well....it may be related to some ego but that ego state doesn't turn into arrogance, it's ok.
