I have made a number of parallel texts, and I normally use different colours to make the two languages stand out, - but different fonts are also OK as long as they are clearly legible. My own pet peeve in this question is very different: I don't like free translations - the two texts should be so similar that you immediately can identify which elements in one text corresponds to which elements in the other one, even if this means that the translation become less elegant and idiomatic. 'Literary' free translations are meant for people who don't want to learn a target laguage.
