I think those who want to contribute should just work on the Tatoeba Project for now, until the admin concretizes his ideas.

That looks like an interesting project, but I personally can't trust it. There's a lot of very idiomatic stuff in there, and you're relying on the translator understanding the appropriate idiom in both languages.
Then there's some very weird stuff: for example "I'm not a real fish, I'm just a mere plushy". "I'm just a soft toy", maybe. Yes, we can fix it bit by bit, but does the correcter understand both languages? Better to keep it simple, I say. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

The project contains lots of simple phrases, as well as complex ones. There are already more than 150,000 sentences in there, so you have to give it some leeway. If you notice a mistake, you can adopt the sentence and correct it immediately or you can write a comment.
To find suitable tourist/beginner/intermediate/advanced sentences for learning, you can have a look at my public lists and link other sentences to them as well, or add your translations. Considering that the entire database is in the public domain and can be exported, this project is a gold mine for those using the 10,000 sentences method. But what if I correct it in relation to Spanish but inadvertently make it wrong in relation to Japanese?
Now that's not true. Public Domain means you can do whatever you want with it, no strings attached. The license "CC-BY-SA" is not the same as public domain, because there are things that I am not allowed to do with the material. I strongly advise you (or the site admin, if that's not you) to remove any statements on the site that describe the material as "public domain", because "public domain" trumps "creative commons", and as contributors have only given CC-BY-SA permission, you are effectively pirating their work by releasing it to the public domain when you have no right to do so. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

As Fat-Tony suggests re-recording existing material might be a good idea. Would we have the resources on this forum to re-record the FSI and DLI courses ? Many of these courses have good audio, but some are just the student texts, and the audio has proven extremely difficult to track down. As far as I know, re-recording wouldn't violate any copyright laws. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

As promised here's the URL: http://finn.st/basiccourse/ I must make a correction to my original statement about a revision to FSI Conversational Finnish. I should have posted that the revision would involve "Basic Course in Finnish" by Meri Lehtinen rather than FSI's course.
