I might try a Meetup group. I did a search and there are many, many groups for single languages. I think I only found one other group that includes as many languages as Mr. Farber's group does. I like the idea of having a nice mix of native and non-native speakers of many languages all together, but that could be confusing as well.
I thought in a city the size of New York I'd find more language groups, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. There's a Goethe-Institut in New York, and I'm sure they have German-language events. I'll keep looking, too. The city is so enormous and varied in its languages that I can walk around in some places an hear no English at all! I haven't done that in a while, but it's fun to listen to (and you can very discreetly eavesdrop on those who speak your languages!)
Some of the groups meet in bars and I am not a drinker, and I'm not even sure it's safe to go to bars alone--maybe I need to get a big polyglot thug to go with me!
EDIT: I just received an error message onscreen telling me spamming is not permitted and that I have exceeded the number of messages allowed in a certain length of time.
???
