I always wanted to emigrate from Germany within Europe. But I was unlucky, because at my young age I didn't have any professional diplomas, only a broken-off university study. So I wasn't qualified for emigration. This was frustrating! But I had to accept the circumstances. Later in life I obtained two professional diplomas, so I would be qualified enough for emigration, but - now at age 48 - I wouldn't want to take the risk of emigration anymore. (NB: The risk of having to return in case of failure) So I have no other choice than to stay here where I am - with all my languages.

I'm already in a foreign country and it's open ended. I don't intend to go home but I don't intend to stay here forever either. I'm going to do my degree here and then see what happens.

I am happy where I am, travelling abroad several times a year for tourism or conferences
only.

I wouldn't mind staying abroad for a few months to immerse myself in a foreign culture or
to escape the winter, but it is not a must.

seems like there's a lot of people living in the USA that don't want to return back to
their country. What's the deal with that? What's goin' on?

A lot of Americans have never traveled out of the country. (myself included :() It's a shame because I have no idea whats out there, I can only watch tv or hear stories. You have no idea how much I would love to explore the world. My parents have that lame egotistical thinking of "America is the best country in the world, why would you want to leave it?" Which is why they poke fun at me for language learning.

I think living in one country is like being a shut-in in your house. You never go outside and play, you can never see friends, or explore the neighborhood!

I honestly can't wait to explore another place, another culture, and another language. It absolutely fascinates me. My parents don't want me to experience it...

I fully agree with you, as I have always felt like that, too.

L2= Language Two (or whichever language you are studying; your fiftieth language would
still be a L2)
L1= Your native language
