I was wondering if anyone could recommend any Spanish books for me.

I am at a low-intermediate level (I just passed the DELE inicial) and have just read "Admirador Secreto" by R.L.Stine (Translation). It's a novel (142 pages) and I think it is aimed for children around 12 years old.

I am hoping to find something around the same level, maybe slightly more challenging. It woud be great to read some books that aren't translations.

I enjoy reading mystery and crime.

Thanks!

Or if no one has any suggestion along those lines, perhaps some traditional Spanish or latin american fairy tales?

ymapazagain, try Rimas y Leyendas de Gustavo Adolfo Becquer. Unless you also like poetry (that would be the Rimas part) I recommend you the Leyendas, a compilation of old Spanish legends, with a misterious touch. It's a classic work. In my times, we read it at school, so I'm sure you'll find it easy to understand.

Rimas y Leyendas

Let me remember others...

ymapazagain, you can also check the web of Alfaguara, they have a collection for youngsters (12 to 17 years, more
or less, the level you're looking for ). You can do a search by author. I don't know most of them, at that age I was
most into Poe, Lovecraft, Derleth... well, also Ramon J. Sender, whose novel Bizancio I enjoyed a lot. It's a historical
novel about the catalan soldiers (almogĂ vers) in the Byzantine empire.

Try Bernardo Atxaga (he writes in Basque but his novels are translated into Spanish) or Carmen Queralt.

Enjoy!

Sounds like La Biblia would be excellent for you- 66 books in one. Lots of variety- historical, poetic, proverbial... Just stay away from para-phrased editions.
