Welcome to April's English book club! This month we are reading "To Kill A MockingBird". Please join in!

To Kill A Mockingbird is an American classic, but still a modern work, so under copyright. If you don't have it yet, try the local library or an online bookstore - or get it as an ebook to get your hands on the book as quickly as possible. I personally am reading it on my Sony eReader, wee!

As you read this book, please tell us what you think. You can post in any language, though the majority will probably be non-native speakers practising their English.

Not sure what to say? Here are some questions you could answer:
* what is your first impression?
* do you like the writing style?
* what did you find the most interesting / the most weird so far?
* what do you think about the characters' actions?

Enjoy!

I'm in the middle of this book right now, and... is it just me or do I sense a strategy of going very gradually from easy no-worries to something sinister, like in "La vita รจ bella"?

What do you think?

I know I'm late in responding, but I wanted to give my thoughts. Yes there will be something sinister, or perhaps shameful, going on as the story progresses. I think one of the main themes of the book is that children generally perceive the world around them as very simple; but adults complicate things. Jean Louise (Scout) believes, as most children do, that people are always honest and decent and as she grows up she realizes that this is not necessarily true.

I'll write more later, I'm almost late for my first class. EDIT: I noticed a few typing mistakes and I fixed them.
