My sentiments are nothing but pro-translators,and as I thought, they have deadlines.

I entertained the thought of using HP for listen-reading in French, but I couldn't get past the theatrics of the reader's voice. It was terribly distracting, and not at all a model for accent imitation (unless one were learning French to become a clown or a comic). I went back to Journey to the Center of the Earth, where the reader kept an even and practical prosody.

I agree. While some of the voices that that reader uses are well-suited to the characters (Hagrid, Professor Trelawney), he makes everyone in the book sound terribly goofy. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

It was announced that he won't face charges, as his motive was not for money. I would also bet because arresting 16 year olds is bad publicity.

That was gonna be my question: Did he charge money? If he didn't, then how is it illegal? I mean I don't really know French law, but if he translates it and keeps it home, is that legal? What if he gives it to family and friends, and what if they then give it to family and friends? If he doesn't claim his translation is official and doesn't charge money, then where's the piracy. Wow, perhaps I should also translate Harry Potter into Korean and see whether I get arrested.
But seriously, I thought of doing that since my English was good enough because I noticed too many translation errors in the "official" Korean transated version. Less than 24 hours after an American movie is released in theaters you can usually buy a bootleg DVD version of it in China and it includes chinese subtitles.
Since this period of time also consist in producing the DVD in mass quantities and other things, this means it only takes them a few hours to make a translated script of the whole movie! That's a really quick job. 1 person has voted this message useful |
