I already started working on the textbook, there are 12 chapters, I am on the fourth one.
I did not have a good experience with the workbook so I discontinued using it.
I rather make up my sentences with the content and vocabulary from the textbook.
My main goal in German is to be able to read and listen.
My level in German should be at B1 by the end of the year, if not better.
Currently I am learning about 15 news words per day.

Hello from a Schnitzel teammate. Hope everything is going well. I like your idea of making up your own sentences. Do you also have access to someone to help with corrections? I struggle with writing, so I am particularly interested in what strategies people have to work on that skill.

My materials that I recently ordered:
German for Reading Knowledge (English and German Edition)
How To Pronounce German Correctly Audio Cassette and Book
Compact German Dictionary: German-English English-German Langenscheidt
Wie geht's with AUDIO CD
My progress:
Well school started last week so I don't have that much free time, still I am learning new words about 15 per day.
Working through Alles klar, adding wie geht because of the audio, before that I want to be able to pronounce German words correctly.
@BAnna I know lang-8 does corrections so does livemocha for free.
Depending upon your level I would recommend Developing Writing Skills in German.
http://www.amazon.com/Developing-Writing-Skills-Annette-Duen sing/dp/0415397464
from i read this book is very useful if you have a intermediate knowledge of German

Thanks for the tip on the book Developing Writing Skills. Part of the challenge with writing is that I don't really need to do it, so I'm basically lazy. Passive modes like reading/listening/watching are relaxing and with speaking you are interacting with someone, but writing has less of a payoff for the work. Sounds like a pretty lame excuse, doesn't it?
It's impressive you are able to learn so many new words per day. Bravo!

@BAnna: If you feel that writing doesn't really pay off, maybe you could find a penpal,
on Livemocha for example. That way you would be interacting with someone, maybe it would
make it more fun and worthwhile?
@danyal: Hi teammate! How is it going? What do you think of the material you're using?
Anything you'd recommend?

@BAnna Most of the vocabulary is either very easy to remember or is it used very often in the textbook
@WingSuet
I think Alles klar is one of the best German textbook out there
The dictionary is an invaluable item
Wie geht's is ok but not has good as Alles klar
My progess:
Reviewing vocabulary from Kapitel 1 to Kapitel 4 Alles klar
I have been slowing the pace, but should be on Kapitel 5 tomorrow and
I should been done with Alles klar within 2 weeks, hopefully.
But even after those 2 weeks I still will learning and reviewing the textbook
vocabulary.
Recommendation:
Reading:
Reading German History: A German Reading Course for Beginners
Also you can check out hueber.de website for material appropriate for your level
I am planning to get some stuff from there once I finished Alles klar
They have textbooks, workbooks, flashcards, exam prep, dvd, etc
