I found the 夜露死苦 version on Denshi Jisho too. The last three characters match mrwarper's version. I wonder if the first character might actually be 四, which can also be read よ.

With all the excitement about bad-boy kanji, I nearly missed your end of year update! I just wanted to say well done on all your progress this year. I think you've really started to find your way with Japanese this year and I can't wait to see you hit N2 in the future.

Thanks for the encouragement. Japanese is my focus although I am dabbling in Chinese too. I finally updated my title to 旅立ち. 2014. Wow. I'm starting to enter territory where I'm sort of a veteran Japanese learner now and should know quite a bit. Kinda weird. I'm still playing with the SUBS2SRS deck thing and waiting to see how I like it. It feels more practical than text book studying since it's real world Japanese and my big goal is to understand anime. But it may not be the most effective way for conversation and JLPT stuff..
I mailed Kanji in Context back to White Rabbit (it finally came). Paying all this shipping kinda hurts but I really wasn't happy with old books. (go figure). I'm toying with taking a Spanish class at the local community college. I really haven't got a social life so that's my big motivation. I'd even retake the Japanese course from last year if I could but my new work schedule isn't compatible. What I remember about Spanish is that it's so easy you can spend a little bit of time on it every week and still get measurable progress. Japanese is still my #1 hobby though and I doubt that'll change. Gadgets.. this isn't directly relate to Japanese but I got a new headset from Amazon. It was listed as some sort of deal for $150 and checking google real quick verified that it was actually a deal. The lowest price I saw otherwise was for 200. So I grabbed it. My old wireless USB headset for my computer sort of died. It wore out basically. The plastic and cushions and stuff just broke. I got a wired usb headset to replace it and it's pretty nice but the cord -always- gets tangled in my computer chair and obviously I can't just keep it on my head and walk around the apartment. This is what I bought.. Jabra REVO Wireless Bluetooth headset. It does USB, Bluetooth, and regular 3.5 mm jack. If you use your headset for language learning like I do, for whatever reason, the software used seems to -need- you to use a USB headset. Or you cause interference for other learners if there's more than 2 people in the learning room. This is true of Rosetta and JOI. Not sure of others. I like how this thing sounds. It's pretty comfortable but isn't huge over the ear comfy but not bad. I am nearsighted and wear glasses at home and the verdict is still out on whether they'll be ok with my glasses. I'll post if they work out for my language learning classes. I hope so. Moving on. I haven't played video/computer games in ages and I'm getting a little bored of anime and thinking of trying out some games in Japanese. I do own a Final Fantasy (maybe the latest volume I don't know) for playstation 3 in Japanese which I may give a go. I do have the old game boy and zelda but would rather play something a little more technologically advanced if possible. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I was curious about the whole 10,000 sentences method of learning and I still kind of am. But I saw a guy on
YouTube explaining it or so the title of the video seemed to be. It was 15 minutes if him looking at books and saying how many sentences were in each book before he even went into what he did. The books are basically dictionaries or phrase books. He records himself reading the books and then listens to his recordings. I think. I lost interest after a bit and it's late. AJATT seems to use a method that makes more sense.. Just SRS for well as many sentences as possible. He advocates using Japanese to explain the sentence but I find that's too hard for me and I've been studying this language a while now. I think by the time it will work I won't be interested in making a sentence deck for SRS. And yes that's thanks in part to kanji. Anyway. I was thinking of maybe just not doing SRS for a month and just reading instead using rikaisama. That's how I got the hang of German. Just not doing SRS for a month seems scary though after using it for years. I mean. I've slacked but that's not the same. But watching someone basically talk about how they memorize a dictionary I think I want to well do something as different as possible as what he was doing. Kind of a knee jerk reaction.
