Luckily, I found Expugnator's posts on UniLang where he asked
about this dialogue. That was helpful because I couldn't figure out what ძალიან კარგი
გიქნია meant!

At your service =D We're following more or less the same materials, so even the doubts
will be similar. You see I'm getting a lot of help! Feel free to follow the thread, and
maybe you can make an account and post too =D

By the way, I just realized I'm counting the dialogues wrong. When
I say the fourth, I mean დ. But apparently that's still part of the introductory one,
and the next one will be the first? I think that's how it works. :)

The ones you've read so far are introductory. All the numbered ones are about John's
life in Tbilisi, so, there's a lot of context.

Btw, have you given a break on Aronson's? I think I'll resume it specifically for
perfect, pluperfect and participles, in case I don't find a complementary source.

No, I'm still working on Aronson. I just haven't really had time for it this week.

Thanks for the tip =D Been there, saw that. If this is the usual "busy" time, I might luckily be able to join by the time I come home from work. Right now I am studying a dialogue and the connection here at mom's is not the best, but I could spot some dialogue lines and it might not be that hard ! *(though i prefer when they write in mxedruli ;) )

Right now I am reading dialogue 1 in the Continuing Course. Here are the things I am
confused about:

1. What exactly does this word mean?: გადმოუტვირთავთ
2. If ლიმონათი can be any fruit flavored soft drink, then how do you specifically say
"lemonade"?
3. Does ძალზე პოპულარული mean very popular, the most popular, or something else?
4. This is not a language thing, but does Borjomi taste very different than other
mineral water? Because John says the taste is "new" for him and that sounds like a
strange thing to say about water...I want to go try some now and see what he's talking
about haha.

Overall, this one wasn't much worse than the last one. I think I had to use the
dictionary a little more than I did last time, but for the most part I understood what
was going on! :)

By the way, Expugnator, do you know why this book was published in 1999 if the
dialogues were written in (I assume) the '80s?

1. გადა(გადმო)ტვირთავს means "to unload something", and გადმოუტვირთავთ is the 3rd
person plural perfect tense, i.e. "they have unloaded it/them".

2. Good question! ლიმონის ლიმონათი gets quite a few hits on Google, though, so
maybe... In Tbilisi cherry was my favorite, but it all tasted a bit artificial, like
fizzy pop used to be in England when I was a kid, before people decided e-numbers were
bad and fresh fruit juice good.

3. ძალზე means "very", but I'm not sure how common it is. Maybe a little formal or
old-fashioned.

4. Borjomi is basically really salty! It's kind of like drinking the sea. I quite
like it, but it is a bit weird at first. It's been marketed abroad a bit more actively
recently after losing its biggest market, Russia, following the 2008 war, so you should
be able to find it in Russian/East European supermarkets/restaurants/online stores.

Oh, I haven't gotten to perfect tense yet in Aronson, but I will soon!

Thanks for explaining! Since I've never tasted it, it kind of just seemed to me like he
was an alien from another planet where they don't have mineral water! Haha. Now I'm
gonna try and find some. I tend to like things that are "weird" at first. I don't know
why, but those things usually end up being my favorite foods/drinks! :)

I have no idea, I'm not sure if it's before or after the end of the USSR. Maybe it was an ongoing project for so many years, depending on funding and such.

Btw, what do you plan to do with this log in the new year's eve? Will you just rename it to Geogian Log - TAC 2013 ?
