Yeah it's an amazing resource! I know a bit Georgian and zero Armenian and zero Azeri, so
I'll use it mostly as a monolingual resource. They should get someone to translate it
into English! Would easily come up as one of the best resources. I will show it to my
friends who speak Turkish and see what they think.

Btw, I'm still far from being able to understand anything in the news. I'll keep it
written for the time being, but I really dream about that. Good luck!

Yeah, it kind of makes me want to learn a little Armenian! I currently know almost nothing, besides numbers
which I picked up from watching Armenian TV and some things I learned from my friends. We have a joke
where I live that there are more Armenians here than in Armenia, haha. So I feel like I should know some
more of the language. I also suck at reading the letters, but I kind of know them. I actually understand the
Azeri a little because I have studied Arabic. So I'm getting kind of interested in that language, too... (I have a
dream of learning Georgian, Armenian and Azeri and visiting all three countries!) This is my biggest problem,
I get distracted so easily by other languages when I'm trying to focus on one! I just wish everything was
translated in Russian instead, so that a) I wouldn't get distracted, and b) I would get to kill two birds with one
stone. But it's an amazing resource nonetheless!

ნუთუ მართლა ასე ლაპარაკობენ ვიქსიკონში??
;)

So I just read most of the 6th dialogue in ACC, the post one. It's not really as
interesting as the other ones...But I'm almost done. I have like a page and a half left.

Well I finally finished that boring dialogue about the mail. I'm sure the next one will
be very exciting in comparison haha.

I was planning to study more Georgian today, but I fell asleep for a long time. I guess
it's because of DST...On second thought, I may actually study more, because I am not
tired at all and I will probably have to do something exhausting so I can fall asleep. :D

I was talking to one of my Arab friends a few days ago, and he asked me how my Arabic
studies were going. Well, I had to tell him that I haven't been studying it lately, and
I felt bad! That made me want to take it up again, or at least keep up what I already
know. I once did Arabic for the 6WC and that was the most intense one I ever did!
Although it was not necessarily the most fruitful. I think I learned the most when I
did Georgian, probably just because Georgian was much more alien to me than Arabic,
since I know Hebrew. Anyway, this got me thinking, and I realized just how many Arabic
derived words there are in Georgian. And also, some of them are quite similar to
Hebrew, which is helpful to me. I believe most of the Arabic words in Georgian actually
came to the language via Turkish or possibly Persian, so they are pretty far removed
from the modern Arabic versions, but still recognizable. Now I know this probably won't
be interesting to people who don't know Arabic (or any other Semitic or Semitic-
influenced languages), but I want to make a little list of Arabic words I've recognized
in Georgian. So far I've found:

kalami - pen (Arabic: qalam; there is a similar word in Hebrew, kalmar - pencil case)

bina - apartment (Arabic: binaa' - "building"; Hebrew: binyan - building)

salami - hello (Arabic: salaam - peace/greeting; Hebrew: shalom - peace/greeting)

saati - hour (Arabic: saa'ah - hour; Hebrew: sha'ah - hour; the "t" sound in the
Georgian version comes from something in Arabic called "taa marbuta." It occurs when a
vowel suffix is attached to a word ending in "h." The /h/ goes away and becomes /t/. It
happens in Hebrew as well)

hava - climate (Arabic: hawaa' - air; there's nothing like this in Hebrew, as far as I
know)

surati - photo (Arabic: surah - image, picture, photo, etc...; same thing with the /h/
being replaced with /t/)

zeti - oil (Arabic: zeit - oil: Hebrew: zait - olive; in Hebrew it only means olive,
not oil. In Arabic olive is "zeituun")

targmani - translation (Arabic: t-r-g-m (or t-r-j-m) - root of verb "translate";
Hebrew: t-r-g-m)

vardi - rose (Arabic: warad - rose; Hebrew: vered - rose)

tarighi - date (Arabic: taariikh - date; Hebrew: taarikh - date)

spilo - elephant (The origin of this one is tricky! Wiktionary says the Arabic word
"fil" came from a Persian word for elephant, even though it is originally an Afro-
Asiatic word; however, it spread all over the Middle East, West Asia, and Europe. Even
the English word "elephant" comes from the same root! (it's the "el-" part); in Hebrew
it is "pil")

I was going to include "moedani" - plaza, square; and "finjani" - cup, but apparently
those are originally Persian words. I may have made a similar mistake with other words,
but I tried my best! I am just doing this to keep a record for myself. It is also
educational for me because I learn which words are originally Persian and which ones
are ultimately Arabic in origin. I once learned Persian for a semester, and one of the
only words I remember is "panjare" (window), because it's like Georgian "panjara." I
can't think of an Arabic word that sounds like that, so I know it's originally Persian.
Anyway, this is just interesting to me for some reason, so I will continue to add more
words as I think of them! :)

Edit: Here's another one-
jibe - pocket (Arabic: jayb)

@TixhiiDon: Arapris! And thanks for giving me a little more reading material there, haha.
I even learned a couple words. :)
Btw, do you know why the word ღვინო is declined with the -ის ending, if it ends with ო?
(And why the heck does it start with ღ, anyway?? ;)

Anyway, today I was reading a thread in another forum about "Things you never realized
until recently, but are actually really obvious." Ok, I'm just paraphrasing with that
title because I don't actually remember what it's called. Anyway, I actually had one of
those moments today with Georgian! I saw the word უფლება in that article and I looked it
up, and then I realized where the word თავისუფლება comes from...

ღვინო starts with 'ღ' because it originates from the verb 'ღვივილი', which means something like 'to boil, to
bloom' referring to the fermentation process. It is this semantic connection that is argued to trace wine etymology
to the Georgian language.

...

Yeah 'თავის-უფლება' - self-right(n.)
and 'თავის-უფალი' - self-lord.

I just finished dialogue 7 in ACC, the one where John goes to the doctor. This is my
favorite question: "მაშ, თქვენ ჩიკაგოდანა ხართ. მართალია, რომ იქ ყოველდღე რამდენიმე
მკვლელობა ხდებაო?"
Haha!

So anyway, that dialogue was slightly more entertaining than the last one. I'm excited
for the next one, but right now I have to do me some Russian! :)

Btw, does anyone know when the 6wc is over? Should be soon...
