Okay, I will try to write more and more in my two TL languages. So, from now on, I will write my entries in
english/swedish/german in this log. I know that I will make lots of mistakes - and that it will be a really really difficult - but it doesn't matter: it's high time I activated my language skills in both languages. Okej, jag ska försöka att skriva mer och mer på mina TL språk. Så från och med nu, jag ska skriva uppdateringar på engelska/svenska/tyska i den här loggen. Jag vet att jag ska göra massor av fel - och att det ska bli mycket mycket svårt - men det spelar ingen roll: det är hög tid att jag aktivera mina språkförmåga på de båda språken. Okay, von nun an, versuche ich immer mehr in diesem Log in meine TL Sprachen zu schreiben. Ich weiß, dass ich viele Fehler machen werde - und dass es wirklich schwierig wird - aber das ist mir egal: die Zeit ist gekommen, um meine Sprachekentnisse in beiden Sprachen zu aktivieren. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

My German is too rusty to be dependable, but I’d love to hear from a German native speaker whether you need the “um” in that last sentence. I would have left it out, but I might be wrong. Did you find it in a textbook? Anyway, that sounds like a very worthwhile project. If you can keep it up over the summer, I’m sure you’ll see good progress in all your TLs pretty soon. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thank you. I wasn't sure of that form either, I had found it in the title of

I think the correct form would be without "um", but I wouldn't even notice the "mistake"
if not pointed out, because it is so clear from context what you wanted to say. The thing is that with the "um" it actually means that "Zeit" is the subject which activates your language skills, which is not possible because "Zeit" isn't animate. But it's the kind of mistake even native speakers make (if it really is one, maybe you can actually use this expression, probably both variants are ok). But if it's a mistake, than it's one in the video too. Except if it's used as a pun. edit: I would prefer "Es ist (an der) Zeit ..." and then it's definitely without "um". I think "Es ist Zeit" is just the shortened version of "Es ist an der Zeit", you can use
both the same way. I'd say the longer version sounds better at least in writing, but one might use the shorter version in speech because .. well, it's shorter ;) an example: 1. "Die Zeit ist gekommen, die Lannister aus King's Landing fortzujagen." 2. "Es ist an der Zeit, die Lannister aus King's Landing fortzujagen." 3. "Es ist Zeit, die Lannister aus King's Landing fortzujagen." This would be about the order from more high-brow to more colloquial according to my feeling. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

With the Lannisters examples it's much clearer now. I wish every textbook had examples

Hello. New update (yay!).
I’m done with my summer session (I’ve managed to get a 28 as my final mark for my German exam), so I can now concentrate full time on languages. My general inclination and predisposition at this point of the year, as far as language learning is concerned, would be to take more time to really focus on my Swedish, whereas German will proceed at a slower pace. No, I am not sure whether this is a good idea at all, but it’s what my instinct tells me to do. A good reason I can think of would be the fact that Swedish has a much simpler grammar than German, so I can really use this time to expand my vocabulary. In order to do that, I’ve bought an unexpectedly cheap book from bokus.com called Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann (approximately translated as “The hundred-years-old man that stepped out of the window and disappeared”) by Jonas Jonasson. I got it yesterday, and started “reading” (deciphering, more like it) it today (4 pages by now, in about 2 hours!). I’ve also managed to get hold of the audio book, so that at the same time I can work on listening. Unsurprisingly, I have undertaken a rather difficult task, but I’m content with it: it means that by the end of this experience the journey will be, though slightly, nonetheless downhill. Svenska Hej allihop. Jag hag bestämd mig för att koncentrera mig mer på mina svenska studier. Tyska ska jag förbättra nästa år. Förra veckan var jag klar med Assimil, men nu börjar jag med ”Active wave” en gång till. Jag har köpt en bok från bokus.com som kallas Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann av Jonas Jonasson. På sommaren ska jag läsa den här boken och lära mig många nya ord. Jag har fått ljudboken också, så ska jag lyssna på den medan jag läser. Ja, det ska bli svårt, men roligt också :) Deutsch Hallo zusammen. In Bezug auf Deutsch, habe ich heute Lektion 60 in Assimil gemacht. Deutsch ist meine zweite TL- Sprache im Augenblick, weil ich mich mehr auf Schwedisch konzentrieren wolle. Trotzdem will ich mit dieser wunderschönen Sprache nicht aufzuhören, denn die auch gefällt mir sehr. Vor allem, höre ich viel Musik von einigen meiner liebsten Sänger. Aber ich lese auch (ich habe ein neues Märchen (erster Teil) aufgenommen, das, wenn ihr wollt, ihr hier hören könnt) und manchmal mache ich Übungen auf dw.de.
