I study in Leiden and I love it. The city is a like a well kept secret. It's beautiful
but not full of people like Amsterdam or Den Haag (or even Haarlem) and the quality of
education is good.
I spent a semester at the UvA but I like it less than Leiden because of the fact that
the campus is spread throughout Amsterdam and it is super busy and bit of a nightmare
if you need to commute to your classes like I had to. Maybe it's better if you
actually live in Amsterdam. I also found the administration a bit chaotic. There were
some problems there. My boyfriend studied at the VU, which is known for its
scientific/technical studies, and he said that the campus was rather depressing but it
is on the outskirts of Amsterdam so you can easily escape that with the trams.
I don't have any experience with Utrecht or Groningen. I think it would depend on what
you would like to study because some universities have more of a focus on scientific
subjects and others on humanities subjects and the quality of teaching will vary.
Also, I believe, of the universities you mentioned, only the UvA and Utrecht are
considered among the best 100 universities in the world.
I can't help you with radio stations and podcasts. I do most of my listening via the
tv.

My plan is to do the following:
- Finish up FIA
- After that move onto Hugo Advanced French (and then another course...)
- Continue listening/watching tv at the pace I am currently going
- Reach at least 50 books for the Super Challenge
- Write 1000 words of French per month (I did say 2500 but I'll never reach that at my
level!)
- Continue using Anki
Türkçe
I have never learnt a language that shares so little vocabulary with English before so
I don’t
really know what I am doing. I am starting with a book called Elementary Turkish by
Lewis V. Thomas
and plugging vocab into Anki.
So my plan is not very clear but I will figure it out as I go along. This year I am
aiming for A1. I
also intend to sample as much Turkish food as I can. :)

That is awesome!I don't know how long the super challenge is but that is a lot of books! I'd be happy to read 50 books in a year. Also what is FIA?
I was also curious if you have any special tricks/an app for tracking your minutes?
I think its a very cool feature of your log and would like to try it myself.
I really started wanting to learn Turkish when I lived in the NL too. Its all that shoarma gone to the head!

Welcome to Team Français 2015! How far are you into FIA, and how long do you take per chapter?
plumbem!, FIA is French in Action, an excellent course based around videos. It was made in the 80s but is still used in universities. Since you live in the USA, you can watch the videos for free at http://www.learner.org/resources/series83.html.

I don't do anything fancy. I mostly just do it the old fashioned way by checking the
clock to see when I start and finish an activity. Then I note down the time spent
studying in Evernote and at the end of each week I put the total into a spreadsheet that
calculates the grand total for me.

Hello Jeffers! I just watch the video and then read over the transcript noting down any
new words to put into Anki. I don't like to linger on a course for too long. It is mental
laziness I suppose but I supplement that by doing lots of work with native materials
because that's what I find the most fun.

Looking forward to follow your log and progress in Turkish, a language I just started myself.
I wish you best of luck with your studies!
