Just thinking out loud here and clearly stating the obvious... at this stage it seems like no-one really wants to
captain the French team. We have a lot of beginners, a sprinkling of us in the middle and a sprinkling of
advanced learners. Fingers crossed someone from the advanced end puts their hand up to lead :) Might I
suggest if the task seems too big that 2 or 3 people opt for joint leadership to ease the workload? Just putting
it out there for those that might be considering it but could be hesitating due to the perceived seemingly large
task at hand |

What are the duties and responsibilities of a team captain? I read in an earlier post that "newbies" are not accepted as team leaders. What level do you need to be at to be eligible?
Merci,
Thomas

Can we make this more or less a requirement*?

To keep things simple, there are just two main rules:
1. To have a language learning log and update it regularly
2. To follow your teammates' logs and give support

I ask each one of you to make a post in this thread, indicating the languages you'll be participating with (present and target level also, or your best estimation) and a link to your log. I will add the member name, language(s) and log link to the roster.
...
As a consequence, we'll keep the rules we had for 2014. This means that:
- anyone joining the group and not indicating a log link will not be added to the roster
- anyone not updating the log for more than 60 days will be eliminated from the roster
- anyone not visiting the forum at all for more than 45 days will be eliminated from the roster
If this seems drastic, I'd like to remember all of you that TAC stands for Total Annihilation Challenge, and not for "I'll dabble in languages for two months then try something else and will come back in January 2016 to see if I've won the blue ribbon challenge". |

Would you allow others to use your text with minor edits?
I'm personally willing to give some more benefit of doubt and add a question mark instead of removing the name... or even a yellow card picture, heh. But I think it should be required to indicate those that are really in. |

I didn't enforce the rules strictly in 2014. In fact, I started by demoting members to observer status, I sent a few PMs, etc. In the end, I only removed the really absent ones. No one asked to come back, no one complained, nothing.
Use whatever part you like. Let that be part of my contribution to TAC, if that's what everyone wants.
Just one thing: I won't make changes in Team Rare's organisation. This seems to have worked in 2014, and my offer to lead Team Rare this year was contingent on that.
As for the question marks or yellow cards, I disagree. For me, it's like branding people, and it may be perceived as demeaning or humiliating. That's one of the reasons why I discreetly removed them: no hassle there.
Of course, someone else had to work a little extra, due to my several PMs. Thanks, Iversen.

It's not about your level in the language - you just need to be a long-term member of the forum. The main responsibility is keeping the team organized, like making sure the first post is up to date, some teams also have challenges, and most have lists of resources on the first page of the team thread.
I thought sctroyenne was going to be the French team leader?

This is my first time doing TAC (or keeping a HTLAL log). Can you elaborate on what you
mean here? Are you saying that we're supposed to continuously edit the first post of our
logs with our current status, rather than just post updates as new posts in the log thread?
(I've been editing my own log's first post as I better document my starting status, but I
hadn't thought to continue updating it throughout the year.)

No no, you are not supposed to continually edit your log's first post; I never do. Serpent was talking about team captains and team threads where the posts should be edited to show the current active members and who has dropped out and who has completed team challenges, and so on.

Josquin, please also accept my thanks for organizing this TAC. I think it is much less chaotic than last year, I can definitely see that you have put a lot of thought into it.
My log is here.
