Favourite book: Haven't completely read a "proper book" but on my holiday I was reading "Merlin:L'années oubliées"
by T.A Barron on the kindle and found it pretty smooth going even with a bunch of words I don't know, so I feel
good I can make decent progress on it.
BD: None yet but I have a newly released one on the life of Jean Jaurés to read.
Favourite film: Une liaison pornographique
Favourite TV series: Engrenages, Qui veut gagner des millions? BTW Engrenages-fanciers I note BBC is starting the
latest season with English subs on January 10th.
Favourite band/singer/musician: Zachary Richard (plus dozens of others, music was my initial inspiration for
learning French)
Favourite audiobook/podcast: News in Francais Facile although I am very slack about keeping up with it. Actually my
favourite francophone-adjacent podcast is in English, the Radio Canada show "C'est la vie" which is about news and
culture in French Canada. It's in anglais (although they have a French word of the week at the end) but I find it really
interesting and learning about the culture in general can only help with motivation on the actual language learning
side. I wish they had more of their archives available to access.
Favourite textbook: Assimil NFWE
Favourite audio learning resource: Glossika, Paul Noble
Favourite video learning resource: Don't really have one, I've dabbled in a lot but not stuck to any ... Do lessons on
iTalki count as "video learning"? I do those twice a week ...
Favourite web-based learning resource: Again, none I've stuck with. I'm going to give Babbel a shot.

I hadn't thought of watching Qui veut gagner... but I'm sure it's great practice. Do you watch it on Youtube? And thank you for the heads up about Engrenages, I probably would have missed the beginning.

You can watch it on the official website with a French VPN, which I hadn't actually done for ages but then I caught an
episode in Noumea which made me want to start again, the hotel had about a dozen French stations (France 1, 3,
Artz, Canal+ etc) and every time I turned it on there was some kind of game show or panel show. The ep I saw was
with a pair of celebrities, winnings to charity. It's good because I enjoy quiz shows anyway, plus you get the formal
language of the question (on Quit veut gagner of course they spell it out on screen which is always helpful) and the
informal of the chat while they work out the answer. One of the celebs was very freely saying "putain" and "merde"
which is not language you would hear on our version, it's a family show pal, not an episode of Spiral. ;-)
Half the celebs on QVGDM also turned up on on other panel or variety shows I saw over the five days which made it
seem like France has half a dozen famous people and they just cycle them round the studios ;-D
Watching daggy (as we would say in Australia) French variety shows all week also gave me two mini-missions for the
next fortnight, learn the words to "Je Veux" by Zaz and "Les Sardines" by Patrick Sebastien.
