I seem to be further behind with my logging than I thought, so here's a quick catch-up.

No grammar this week, instead I've been concentrating on reading NHK News and various
watching J-Dramas.
I've kept the Anki decks up to date and I've started to make some headway with the j-
Drama anki deck.
Everything else is chugging along as before.

I've finished mining みんなの日本語中級 for vocabulary, although I've yet to activate any
of that in Anki. I only managed two NHK News articles this week, but I have started to
get back into the swing of things with grammar. Anki is up to date.
I've managed to watch a fair bit of Japanese drama (about 6 hours worth) and I've gone
back to watching a bit of 凪のあすから to see if the subs2srs deck is helping (which it
seems to be).

So the SC has started and I'm participating. My previous rate of drama/anime watching
should be more than enough to complete the 100 films (150 hours) in 20 months. Reading
will be much more of a challenge so this week I went through my graded readers. That
means next week I'll have to tackle something tougher.
Overall I read 9 NHK News articles, but all before the SC began.
I've managed to get back into the 新完全マスタ groove and I'm working through the grammar
again. Each time through the book I notice a an additional point or two, which is good.
I've kept Anki and RTK up to date throughout this week.
I had Friday off this week, so I managed to get over 7 hours of Japanese done. Normal
service will be resumed next week :-)

Although I did watch a fair bit of drama this week, reading did indeed prove tougher:
in fact I didn't pick up a book at all and the page count was entirely down to 7 NHK
News articles I read in one day.
I did spend some time going through the mock test papers, looking for vocabulary to
mine, but I've yet to activate that in Anki. Interestingly, only a few of the "new"
grammar points that I've been studying cropped up (わけ and はず).

I think those are both really good ones. They were taught in my Japanese 202 course and fit well in
conversation. And はず just gets used in anime all the time.

So what have I managed to fit in in those 3 weeks? I've finished the Penguin Parallel
Text (Short Stories) and also re-read A Homestay In Japan. I read the Penguin
extensively, using the accompanying translation to make sense of the Japanese. AHIJ
I've already read a few times before, so this time I was able to concentrate on the
Japanese and not need to look anything up (although I did sometimes use the running
gloss). A little bit of my reading has been on NHK News but only a handful of pages
worth here and there.
I've managed to pick up where I'd left off in the grammar book and I expect to finish
it in the next few days. At that point I'll go through 日本語総まとめ N3 文法 one more time
to see what still hasn't stuck.
I've been watching quite a lot of drama, some with subs, some without and some without
and then the same episode with. I feel like I'm beginning to hear words through the
fog, so hopefully things are getting better.
I've been going through the mock tests with my tutor and things are looking OK for the
JLPT. By "OK" I mean that the mocks weren't the complete disaster that I thought they
were, but they weren't anything to write home about either. Hopefully I've improved a
bit in the last month.
I've not activated any new vocabulary or kanji in Anki: instead I've concentrated on
keeping the current vocabulary fresh.
Finally I've (literally) just received my JLPT test voucher from SOAS, so it looks like
I will be sitting the N3 in July!

I've managed to do a decent amount of reading this week. I finished "Reading Japanese
with a Smile", which actually is only about 15 pages of Japanese, the rest being
English or gloss. On top of that I've managed to read quite a bit of NHK News.
My tutor is away for three weeks, so she's left me the mock test book, which means I
should try to fit in two complete N3 mock tests over the next week or two.
I'm sure I've finished 新完全マスター N3 文法, but my spreadsheet says I've only reached
the end of Part 2. I'll have to check more carefully and then get around to some 日本語
総まとめ N3 文法.
I guess the next few weeks will mostly be spent trying to consolidate those things that
I need to know for the JLPT N3 early next month. World Cup permitting, of course!

Over the last two weeks my focus has shifted slightly away from watching drama and back
towards reading and a little grammar. I've also been working through a few mock exams.
I had printed off a few (old) JLPT 2 past papers, as I didn't have any N3 mock tests to
work through, but now that my tutor has supplied a few mock test books for me to look
at, I've got more than enough of the real thing to work through.
I've also worked through an N3 vocabulary book, picking out the terms that I didn't
recognise, so I'll be working through those in Anki over the next two weeks. I'll be
careful not to overload though, as there's plenty of other stuff I want to work through
for preparation too.
