talk to someone: not today. I had to cancel my Tagalog lesson due to spotty Wi-Fi.

listen to something: 55 minutes of very intensive listening today! I transcribed a 4 minute cartoon. It was *a
lot* of work. My husband went over it with me when I was done, and I was pretty close for the most part. Most of
the words that I got stuck on were verbs that I haven't seen yet.

reading: read several stories in my book bin

write something: worked with -um- verbs today (see previous post. But don't read it unless you're studying
Tagalog - because it's really, really boring)

vocabulary: anki and memrise

other: Pimsleur lesson 15. FINISHED! Overall, I'm happy with the experience. If I had the next 15 lessons, I'd
do them.

TOTAL TIME FOR TODAY: 134 minutes

I mentioned in my log that yesterday I spent an hour transcribing a short Tagalog cartoon. I put the transcript and
translation in a PDF, which is here:

Pixie Can Share - transcript

The video is here:

Today, like yesterday, I mostly did course work. I promised myself that I'd finished lesson 9 of Elementary Tagalog
before the end of the month, so I have to focus on it right now. I do find that my stamina is much higher when I
mix course work with other stuff, like book bin reading, songs, or cartoons. When I do mainly course work and
anki, I tend to put in only an hour. When I use a wider variety of resources, it's much easier to put in an hour and
a half or even two.

listen to something: dictation exercise from Elementary Tagalog lesson 9

reading: reviewed old texts from Elementary Tagalog

write something: worked on exercises in Elementary Tagalog workbook

My goals for August were:

- finish lessons 7 and 8 in Teach Yourself - DONE
- finish lessons 8 and 9 in Elementary Tagalog - DONE
- learn to sing a Tagalog song - DONE (Bumitaw - Let It Go)
- find a children's show - DONE (lots of short cartoons on YouTube)

My goals for September are:
- finish lessons 9 and 10 in Teach Yourself
- finish lessons 10 and 11 in Elementary Tagalog
- learn to sing two new Tagalog songs
- transcribe two more short Tagalog cartoons
- translate four more Napoleon easy readers

Not a big day for Tagalog today. But we did watch several episodes of the Walking Dead season four! Naglalakad
ang mga patay! I've also been listening passively to a lot of Tagalog music over the past few days.

write something: hand-writing all listening exercises from Elementary Tagalog lesson 9

I'm getting tired of these procedural updates. Just a few weeks left for the six-week challenge, and then I can do
more general updates - the kind that I much prefer both writing and reading

I didn't do any Tagalog at all yesterday - not a minute! I paid for it today, though, with double the anki and memrise
words to review. Aside from vocabulary study with anki and memrise, all that I did today was a 30 minute
conversational class on Skype.

Fact: living with a native speaker can be frustrating! When I ask my husband how to say something *simple*, he
rattles off a long sentence using structures that I've never seen. Then he tells me it's easy when I ask if there's a
simpler way to say it. Argh!

Today I worked a bit on both my courses:

Elementary Tagalog lesson 10 - entered new vocab into anki deck, did reading comprehension activity,
quickly read through grammar explanations for this lesson (the Tagalog equivalent of prepositions)

Teach Yourself Filipino unit 9 - first dialogue: listened several times, alternating reading in Tagalog and in
English, and then copied the dialogue into my notebook

I also...

- watched two short cartoons on YouTube
- read Prinsipe Malungkot (bilingual picture book)
- wrote a paragraph describing my work
- ran through my anki and memrise decks

total time for today: 90 minutes
