Just a heads up: lyricstraining site has completely changed. The links still work but I've not been able to play in Russian or Hungarian :/ BTW do you know of any other songs on lyricstraining that aren't in the officially supported languages?

The Russian has only ever worked in karaoke mode, their program seems to skip over Cyrillic letters the same way it skips over words in parenthesis. The Hungarian songs still work for me though.
Haven't found anyone else uploading songs in non-supported languages, so, so far its only stuff I've put up. I have a lot more I plan on putting up eventually, just haven't had time to do so lately. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Finished up my first wave of Assimil Russian (3rd gen, English base) today, my first full beginner's Russian course. Liked it quite a bit, and definitely kept up with the pace much better than my Hungarian course.
Also did some more thinking about my course routine and re-thinking some of the changes made before. I came to a few realizations. Firstly I realized that I'm more likely to waste time and get distracted on my Assimil courses that I study more intensively (use scriptorium), if I'm in less of a studying mood. Secondly I think that when doing L2->L3 Assimil doing a beginner L2 -> a upper beginner/lower intermediate L3 seems to be the least efficient setup, it definitely brings results, but starting up Russian --> Italian made me realize how much more efficient it is to pick up a new languages, with a language you're already pretty familiar with, than to try and review an old course with a beginner language. Now the only course I've still got left in my routine going from a weaker language to a stronger language is Russian --> German. Since my German has been inactive for several years, I do find it fairly helpful and fun, but I think it does take a toll on my motivation during my less productive days. But rather than eliminate it, I've decided to add it to my roster of causal reading/shadowing only courses, and also add back in my Hungarian-->French course, Franciául Könnyűszerrel, as well as doing a 3rd wave of the 2nd gen German assimil from a Hungarin base, Németül Könnyűszerrel. I think the change from 1 intensive course to 3 extensive courses, will take up roughly the same amount of time in my routine, but will free up some of my attention-span for more focused study to more important areas. It also has the benefit of re-distributing more of my study time back to Hungarian, which I think definitely needs more attention at the moment. I'm not sure if I've ever clearly indicated which courses I use intensively, and which ones I use extensively, so for anyone who's curious, under my new routine the following Assimil courses are the ones I'll be writing out with scriptorium for intensive study. Le Russe Sans Peine (1st gen French->Russian) Le Russe (3rd gen French->Russian) Hongrois Sans Peine (2nd gen French->Hungarian) Итальянский (3rd gen Russian->Italian) Everything else I consider my casual recovery courses that I shadow/read between intensive study to keep words buzzing around my head. So my experiment with Romanian is basically to try and see how much I can learn with very minimal daily study over a long period of time, in a language family I've already worked in. Most of my studies have been pretty course intensive, but I'm hoping that once I get a foothold in a language family, I'll be able to use more native materials instead.
I'm using Assimil to get some ideas on grammar, but I'm hoping that the brunt of the learning can come from a Subs2SRS Anki deck over several years. Of course eventually I'd like to study the language full time, I just want to satiate my wanderlust a bit, and see how far my minimal methods get me while I focus on my higher priority languages. So far using Assimil extensively, I've picked up some things but a lot still evades me. In a few weeks I'll be starting my second wave, in which I plan to do more intensive study with. Since this will be my last wave, regardless of results, until I take up the language more seriously, I figure now is a good time to start my Subs2SRS deck for Romanian. I hope I can start building up my vocabulary and try and create some synergies with my Assimil course. Hopefully when I get to my second wave of Assimil I'll have some more vocab under my belt so I can focus more on grammer. Just finished a short Russian meeting with Expugnator and Josquin for team Катюша!
I uploaded a clip from the film I'm studying to share, but since not as many people made it to the meeting as expected I figured I'd share it here as well. I've added both English and Russian subtitles to the clip, but I'll also include a bi-lingual transcript below in case anyone wants to read through it. I thought this clip would be useful for study, because it re-works a lot of the same vocabulary, and I also think it's pretty funny. So here it is in case anyone wants to use it. Clip Нужно, чтоб исполнялись все желания. Тогда человек будет счастлив. All desires must be fulfilled. Then a person can be truly happy. Неужели ты не понимаешь? Don't you understand? Yesterday I started my 3rd wave of Assimil Hungarian, this time from a German base, Ungarisch Ohne Mühe. Overall I'm starting to feel more comfortable with my Hungarian studies, my second wave is still a bit challenging, but I know a lot more than I did on my 1st wave, and I'm glad I'm doing a 3rd wave to review and catch anything that slips past me. Also more comfortable with my Hungarian base Assimil courses now that I'm using them more extensively just to get more context.
Also been listening to a lot of the Romanian band Phoenix. Unfortunately the newly reformatted Lyrics Training website doesn't have their song uploader fully up and running, so I can't upload any of their stuff there yet. Here's a few of their songs I like, though for anyone who's curious. Phoenix - Uciderea Balaurului Phoenix - Sirena Though I haven't really had time to start trying to read full books in French, I have been finding a bit of time here and there for comics. I've never really been much of a comic reader, but I've always had some moderate interest in the form. One of my favorite film directors Alejandro Jodorowski, made a lot of comics in France when he had trouble finding funding to make films.
