Hi all,
I've been lurking around these forums for a few months, and I decided I had nothing to
lose by making my own journal thread.
I've been teaching English in China for the past 2 years and am going back for another
in just a couple weeks. As it turns out, teaching English is not a good way to learn
Mandarin. Who knew? Still, I've picked up enough where I'd say I'm an A2, except that
there are some definite gaps in my knowledge, though I grant myself that knowing other
things outside of that level sort of evens out.
My pronunciation is pretty good; I am using native speaker's judgments for that. I have
the basics down. What I don't have is anything substantial built upon that foundation.
So, I'm looking to get a lot more exposure and build up my language bit by bit. To do
this I have a few resources.
1. Assimil - The majority of the lessons are too easy at this point, but I'm going to
go through it in case there is anything I'm missing from within the course.
2. Memrise - I hate to just cram Hanzi out of context, but I figure eventually the
recognition will kick in and then it'll be a self-reinforcing method.
3. Assorted movies - Whatever I can find that is in Putonghua. This is more for
exposure at this moment.
Once I'm through Assimil I'll find something else to jump into.
