Raul Amundaray narrates one of the Angels and Demons audio books in Spanish. He is the best... period. He also does the Da Vinci Code. Great voice. He speaks slowly, clearly and in an accent/tone that would be amazing to copy. Good choice for a book to LR. Good luck with your studies.

Thanks for the tip, James29. "El Misterio de Salem's Lot" is also narrated well. For
anyone considering LR in Spanish, feel free to PM me. I'd be happy to help if I can.

I'm now about 60% finished with Angels and Demons. I didn't put in as many hours as I
wanted this week, but I added a Spanish-English dictionary to my Kindle called Hispano
version 3, which has been very useful.

It was about $5. It took me awhile to figure out
that I had to actually go in and open the dictionary once before the pop-up function
would start working in my Spanish book. I am very happy with the dictionary , but
sometimes it doesn't work when a word is followed by a comma. When you look up a verb,
it provides a simple chart with the verb in various tenses.
I have found a site that has various videos sorted by levels A1 to B2. I decided to try
testing my listening ability.
First, I listened to this video, paused after each sentence, and typed it out. (Level
A2)

This was what I wrote, after listening only one time. The question marks indicate
words I couldn't catch. I checked my writing against the transcription, and the part I
had the most trouble with was the 2 or 3 sentences about the "human statues". The rest
of it was quite easy. I wish I had done something like this before I started LR, but
anyway, this is where I am at now.

A Barcelona vienen muchas turistas. Puedes visitar
muchos lugares bonitos pero también hay lugares feos y lugares diferentes. Este es el

Of course, this is just one video. The material is very boring, but it's useful to
gauge my level. I may try out some other videos tomorrow.

On the 24th, I couldn't put Angels and Demons down till I got through the climax, which
now appears to be the "first climax", and sort of overdid it. Then the next day, for
the first time since I started, I had time, but didn't feel like picking the book up.
I had a minor headache, and just read for about 30 minutes that night.
The 27th was a good day. I have a memory like a sieve, and I was looking up the same
words over and over again in my Kindle, so I wrote down 288 Spanish words in my
notebook with the English definitions. I reviewed them again last night before bed,
and this morning I tested myself and remembered 213 of them. While I was doing this, I
continued listening to the audiobook, and was pleasantly surprised that I could
understand some of it without reading anything.

Well, June 11 got here so fast. I took another look at the words in the notebook, and I have forgotten 3/4 of them. Looking back at how my motivation level waxed and waned, I feel like I was "in the flow" the first time I read Angels and Demons, and I just couldn't put it down. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. After I finished the book (reading a chapter at a time in English followed by Spanish, both while listening to the audiobook), I was exhausted, and had trouble getting started again. There were 5 days that I didn't study at all.
I am now going through the novel again (about 1/4 of the way through) reading in English a chapter at a time while listening to the Spanish, followed by listening alone. The story is still fresh in my mind, and that helps a lot. siomotteikiru mentioned that when he first LRed "The Trial" in German for 3 days, spending about 10 hours per day, he started out knowing about 800 German words, and was very familiar with the story and loved it. I think all these factors are crucial - having a basic vocabulary, knowing and loving the story, and having a good audio recording. I can also see now what he means by an author's idiolect. In Angels and Demons, Dan Brown uses certain phrases like "frowned" and "moved away" (and so many more) over and over again.
I know I haven't reached my goal, but I am so much farther along than I was when I started. I'm going to test my listening, and will write a brief report in my next post.
