http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/portuguese/talk/summer/ Oh boy. The "cheching!". This was a good lesson in the differences between pronunciation between Brazilian and European Portuguese. I'm sure the Brazilian was putting on their best accent, I've never heard Brazilian spoken so clear and understandable (maybe I've got my Brazil ear in?). More likely they are over-enunciating and speaking slowly for us dumb foreigners ;-( I you in the UK you get an extra lesson consisting of a few short documentaries on various places in Portugal - us plebs in the colonies must do without :-P. Day 11
So I'm done with the BBC, I'm adding these 14 beginners readers, and two slots for Chicken Little and re-basing my progress. http://rumaccc.unimelb.edu.au/readers/east-timorese-language s/portuguese I note my elapsed days are narely double my work days, I didn't realize I'd been skipping that much. Basically using a frame of "After school we play ..." to cycle through a bunch of clauses, that can be inferred from the pictures if you don't have the vocab. Very satisfying, keen for more. Chapter 10 Ontem fui de carro Nice false friend, and just to dress it up the sentence is about going to the beach: como de costume - as usual Feeling a bit lost, need to polish up conjugation of regular verbs, ir, estar, ser, haver. Should be "O macaco tem uma cauda comprida." Keep an eye out for "direita" = right / straight. Chapter 11 Lugares e pessoas Errata p. 137 east is labeled "este ou leste" should be "este / leste" Errata p. 138 11.2.1 The map is not sufficiently clear or detailed to answer question ii. There should be wind indicators in the NE and SE Errata p. 148 "9. O meu marido ..." Don't use this it's portuglish, though found spoken in Africa. Chapter 12 Siga em frente Errata p. 152 "mais um-uma" should be "mais um/uma" same on p. 153 Note: "O fiambre (Eur.) / O presunto (Br.) - ham" but also if you do ask for "O presunto" in Portugal you will get preserved salted pork (like Italian prechuto). Notable increase in ease in pronunciation, this go a lot faster and easier, at least for familiar words. A new word can slow things down considerably.
