GR: Τελείωσα τελικά την ανάγνωση μου του ελληνικού αλφαβήτου - από το άλφα μέχρι το ωμέγα. Και έχω δοκιμαστεί παθητικό λεξιλόγιο μου από τη μελέτη ενός τμήματος της ελληνικής οδηγός μου στην Αθήνα, και μάλιστα: θα μπορούσα ένα χρόνο μετά την άλλη να θυμάστε ότι η λέξη είχε εμφανιστεί στο λεξιλόγιό μου.
I have finally finished my perousal of the Greek alphabet and I put it to a test by reading a page of my Greek guide to Athens. And while reading I could several times remember that a certain word had occurred in my wordlists. Btw. I can happily throw these away now - because they contain most of the words in the Greek-English part of Swanson's dictionary I can just as well use this for for further studies. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I have been to Copenhagen to a attend a meeting Satyrday in my travel club, but it became slightly more dramatic than anticipated. After the meeting - which took most of the day - we all went to eat in a restaurant in a cellar. The food was fine, but the air there was hot and damp, and I found it more and more difficult to breathe, so when we afterwards left the place and went up into the cold air and I had said goodbye to the others, I actually got an asthma attack while walking along on the street searching for a bus or at least somewhere to sit down. A couple passed by and called 112, and then I actually ended up at a hospital where they kept me the night over. With some appropiate medicine and an oxygen mask I was fast brought back to normal status, but I couldn't fall sleep because of an elderly lady behind a curtain in the same room who apparently had apnoe - a Greek word which means that you forget to breathe while you sleep. Somehow you can't avoid listening and listening until they start breathing again - and then they continue snoring until next apnoe episode. So I only got max. four hours of sleep and spent part of the night in a chair outside the room - but (almost) nothing is so bad it isn't good for something: I used the remaining time on rereading my old blue TY Irish. This was far from being efficient enough because I didn't have anything to write with or on, and the book uses "do" before perfects starting with a consonant, which of course will be seen as a bad omen by any member of the honoured Clann o'Lugus, and its explanations about the use of copula verbs could be clearer - but ok, it is there, and I was reminded about a lot of useful things in Irish. A nurse passed by and asked what I was doing, and I told her that I tried to become sleepy enough to ignore the breathing patterns of my room mate, and when she saw that I was studying Irish grammar she acknowledged that my technique might work - she had never seen anything so boring.
Today at seven o'clock in the morning I was told by a doctor that my lungs were shit, but the rest of me functioned sufficiently well and I didn't have any acute infections or other serious malfunctions, so I was let loose from the hospital with some paper for my own doctor. I went to my hotel to get the rest of my luggage, have a bath and check out, and after that I visited 3 museums and one art exhibition, walked through half the town, ate a Hawaii pizza and during the trip home by train I read a Focus in Italian, which I found in a 7-11 at the Copenhagen Main station. Maybe I'll read some more about this magazine later, but I would like to get more than 4 hours of sleep before going to work tomorrow so.... Sounds awful, but I'm glad you're okay. And impressed you managed some Irish in the

Iversen, I hope for you that the asthma is only temporary and does not become chronical, and it's a pity that you didn't get to sleep in that hospital - and even in such a situation you do something with languages, that's amirable.
