Don't feel bad, life takes it's toll. Sometimes you just have to roll with it and pick

Thanks! I'll just do my best not to take too many breaks in the future haha.
So I'm feeling a lot better now, but I'm still drowning in work for my end of year exams. I've been doing as much as I can each day, and I think I'm on track to finish the first wave in around a week, barring exceptional circumstances. I've decided to only do one passive lesson a day for the foreseeable future. I'll go a little faster once I've done the passive wave. I've been doing lots of little bits here and there which I assume add up (I spend an hour or more a day listening to French just through videos, the news, music and the like). In terms of what I can track: PASSIVE: 81/100 ACTIVE: 14/100 and I've read exactly 700 pages in French since 31 March when I started this log which comes to around 26 pages a day. My life's been pretty busy, so I've decided to shelve the active stage until I'm done the
passive stage, which I'm going to try to do over the course of the long weekend. I'm almost done Harry Potter 4 in French :D PASSIVE: 92/100 I've now read 900 pages since 31 March, which comes toooooo around 27 pages a day. My average is going up :p 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Today I finished Harry Potter, putting my page total since the beginning of this log at
precisely 971 pages. Reading in French seems to take less effort now. I'm gonna have to concentrate on not reading "out loud" in my head. That's what slows me down, but I think I'm improving on that and my reading speed is increasing :D Also, after checking a couple of pages, my comprehension is around 98-99%, that is, I don't know 1-2% of words on each page. That surprised me, I would have said it was closer to 95%. More good news, I guess, haha. I'm not sure what I'm going to read next, but I have a copy of "Traité d'athéologie" by Michel Onfray on my Kindle which I, ahem, "got" after watching an interview with him. That could be interesting. I'd quite like to read some nonfiction for a change. I also found out that there's a French version of "A People's History of the United States" around, which I've been intending to read for a while, so I'll try to procure that somehow as well. I'm nearly finished with Assimil, or at least the passive stage. I'm gonna finish tomorrow. I can't wait to be done to be honest haha. I think 3 lessons a day might've been a little ambitious of me (but I pulled it off with only a couple of breaks!). After I'm finished, I'll go through the active stage at a more relaxed pace and I'll start diving into some native materials which I've been almost totally avoiding for the last month. Besides that, I've been listening to French for about 2-4 hours a day. Most of my entertainment now comes in French, which is great. I feel like I'm finally at the level where I can just have fun with French and improve naturally. And my speaking has gotten dramatically better, to the point where I can express myself pretty easily in most contexts and can also talk (albeit slowly and with some humming and hawwing) about current affairs, politics and the like. Congratulations on the amount of reading Lundrum! Sounds like you're getting into a nice state of 'flow'. I am reading more non-fiction and it does make a change; generally easier sentence structures, less fancy synonyms but more specialised and technical vocabulary to contend with. And your listening seems pretty impressive too, keep it rolling!

Today I finished the passive wave of Assimil! Now I'm gonna go slowly through the active wave, and try to acquire some reading material. I'm going to try and do a couple of days of grammar study as I think Assimil might not have given me a good enough base in that regard, but I tried reading an article this morning in German and I found that I could understand the gist of it, which is incredibly encouraging. I found a book in French this evening that I thought I'd lost. I've never actually opened it haha. It's "Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady et Rebelle", and after reading the first couple of pages it seems super interesting, so that's what I'm going for next. I listened to a couple of songs on the Aubert chante Houellebecq, and I think I'm gonna be playing it for a while, so thanks for that, Jeffers!
