An update on where I am:
Assimil Chinese: Lesson 56
New Concept Chinese: Lesson 14
Podcast count: 5
Movie/show count: 14
Things are going well, been getting in over 90 mins of sit down study per day and
my listening time has increased - some days getting in over 2 hours of listening to
Chinese
(assimil dialogues, new concept dialogues, podcasts etc)
Today I had 3 separate conversations with random people. The first one was
disappointing as some way into the chat he asked me a question and there was one word
I couldn't for the life of me understand - I had to tell him 'sorry my Chinese is poor
I can't understand your question'. The second chat was much better! We talked about
how the weather in Beijing is getting warmer and I said I liked this weather more the
than the freezing cold we've had for the past few months and Upon learning he wasn't
from Beijing I also asked why he had not returned home for the Chinese new year and he
told
me that last year he went home but this year he couldn't because he had to work..
After I told him I'd been in China just 6 months he praised my Mandarin several times
although I really don't think I spoke too well, it was a confidence booster anyway!
The third conversation was with a taxi driver - it was quick but satisfying all the
same!
I have noticed improvements with my Chinese, let's hope I continue to improve!

So I've started my new job and just in this first week I can feel an improvement in my
Chinese. My coworkers speak little to no English and for 8 hours of the day I'm truly
immersed in Chinese and having to speak (or at least attempt to) if I want to
communicate. It's nerve wracking but really what I need to level up my Chinese.
Everyone is super friendly too.
Course update:
Assmil: Lesson 59
New Concept Chinese: Lesson 24
Movies/Shows: 23

Seeing as this has been my first week of work, I haven't had the time to do much sit
down study, but that's okay because I've been getting lots of speaking practice. Once
I've settled into more of a routine I should have more time for study. Assimil is
starting to feel like a bit of a slug.. but I'm determined to finish it. New concept
is a little light, but that's okay because I don't spend much time on the lessons
anyway. I want to finish these books ASAP so I can get onto more advanced stuff.
Note: I'm thinking of getting Glossika's Chinese fluency module (3000 sentences), has
anyone tried it?

Grammar and workbook: Just started
What I'll be starting soon: NCC Book 4, Glossika, character book.
Attended an A2 Chinese class today. My speaking was better than most people, but they
could read and write a lot better than me (I have't put much time into these skills)
