I am renting MT from my local library and uploading it to my PC and transferring it to my mobile, and i listen to it fro there.
I wish to buy the physical copy of FSI. I am considering Barrons (seeing as its the one recommended by FX Micheloud).
I found two different copies.
a PB one and a Hear it, Speak it, Read it, Write it (or something like that order), i was wondering what the difference is.

For those saying MT Chinese is good:
I got the demo CD from the website and it seems like the Chinese he teaches is so SLOW--the students have to pause before each word and there are huge gaps in the sentences. It doesn't sound natural to me. He'll ask them to translate a sentence, and while they're translating, he gives them hints in English. It also doesn't seem to cover much material. (I listened to the first tracks and the last ones). He may teach tones well, but it doesn't sound like good pronunciation without at least some semblance of speed.
Maybe I'm missing something?

you are missing something, his mandarin course is the best avalable. He starts slow, because it actually is very hard
material, and in the advanced course the "roberta" speaks normal speed mandarin. His vocab builder is going to be
4 cds. He responds often on the michel thomas forum, and there you can read peoples take on his course.

I don't know about Chinese but his Spanish and French are definitely not the best available. His non native accent is a deal breaker for me. My goal is to sound as close to native as possible and that means using native speakers as speaking models. Though his method is good.

I am sure his Mandarin course is very good indeed, but to say it is the best available is maybe a bit rash, considering that there are other excellent courses such as FSI Standard Mandarin.

They use native speakers for Michel Thomas Mandarin, Russian and Arabic. As for this and "his" (?) responses on the Michel Thomas Forum, I hope you both remember Michel Thomas died in 2005 as zorglub already pointed out.

I have only used CD 1 (1 Hour)(my CD2 hasnt come, STILL)but i have already learnt more (especially about tenses) in Spanish than i have in 2 years of Spanish lessons.
ANYTHING that can do that is good in my opinion.
I can't wait to do mandarin.

Learning on your own is IMHO the best way to go with whatever methods work best for you.
