Question for you my man, although you may have already answered it (read the first page and the last 2 only..)

I saw that you keep a personal dictionary of your own, basically a long word list for refresher. How do you do this exactly? Alphabetical or what?

I ask, as I am a fan of wordlists for my short time in Spanish using Iversen's method and never thought about making a "personal" dictionary to be able to use as reference just in case.

Maybe the best way would be on the computer, but that makes things less useful unless you do alot of reading on the comp, and then at that point you can just use online dictionaries.. Looking forward to your response.

Dear StrikerCW,

It is nice to see that atleast some people are interested in my ramblings. My personal'dictionary' is rather simple really. I write the letters of the alphabet starting from the rear of one of my note books. A being the last page, and working your way inwards, if it wasn't obvious. Everytime, though less and less now, I come across a word that I don't know I write it down under the letters A-Z. It is the way I was taught as a kid learning German, and it has stuck.

I don't really review it, but every time I add a new word under a certain letter I will give the list a look over. I don't put too much effort into learning the vocab, but writing it once or twice helps it stick.

I added an application called quicknotes to firefox. Your post reminded me that I still need to finish transcribing the words I found online, and thus checked with an online dictionary and copy pasted into the quicknote list, into the hand written one.

I should also go through my textbooks and grab all the vocab I translated and wrote down in between the lines and put it in the back of my book as well.

If I were to give you any advice, it is to leave more than one page per letter. They fill up pretty quick.

I hope this has explained it well enough. Don't hesitate to ask again about anything. This goes for all of you anonymous and wonderful people who browse through my log.

Thom.

Did an hour of vocab before school today, plus the three hours everyday. Since my last post. Otherwise not much else. Not really feeling like studying.

Hmm, it has been a while, since the last time I posted anything. I have been procrastinating, both regarding school work and finding a real job. Had a nice lazy weekend at home, which was a nice change. Going to Aix-en-Provence on friday night, for the weekend. So yeah, gonna get my French on.

Français: As always I did my 8 hours on monday and have been doing my three hours a day for school, I got to do a presentation on Ned Kelly. Which was kinda cool. Other than that, nothing much, little bit of grammar.

Italian: I am now up to page 63 and Chapter Five of ItalianissimO. Discovered a few french words I didn't know whilst doing so. Nevertheless, it is coming along rather well. Not having any trouble with learning it through a book written in French. Nor have I had any Italian slip into my everyday speaking, schooling, etc.

Türkçe: I am kind of struggling to find motivation to do much work on it. Internet lessons with a friend of mine have fallen through, I don't actually have a physical book for it, nor any pressing need to learn it. So we will see where it all ends up.

Español: Been hearing it around, mostly mexican, prefer it to Castillan. Picking up bits and pieces, and I kind of have that tinkering feeling.

Well I made it back from Provence. Fun was had. I managed to finish 'a l'ouest: rein de nouveau'. First book solely in french, done and dusted. Will make a start on the 3 mousquetaires soonish. I have only three days of school left, which is good.

Afternoon all, it has been a couple of days since I last posted, mainly because it is has been a while since I did any work on my languages.

Français:
I have now completed my language school: so now the real work begins.

My certificate reads: 'Niveau Atteint: Avancé (B2)' which is nice. Though it begs the question of whether I should put B2 next to French in my profile, even though I have not sat the actual exam. What are your thoughts dear reader?

Furthermore, my comprehension, both written and oral is 'Excellent'. Rock on Thom. Though bit of a surprise, my written expression is good, whereas my oral expression is average. I kind of felt it was the contrary. Nevertheless, I obviously need to shape up my expression, in both its' manifestations.

Which I will do over the coming months and years.

Italiano:
I have read a few bilingual short stories. Just to ease myself back into it.

Türkçe:
Has died an ignoble death. Might ressurect it might not. But I will delete it from my profile. Or maybe just change it to just dabbling. I dunno.

Hope you guys are attaining your goals,
Thom.
