Do you have access to any material, or are you just going to take the "chaotic approach"?

I just skimmed through the other thread about studying in Sweden. Are you still planning to get here, and if so - what is your time plan? That is, how much time are you willing to devote on your studies before going (and which level are you aiming for)?

Here are some links that you may find useful:
FSI Swedish
Swedish LingQ

^Thanks for those links. They seem to have some really good information about learning Swedish! :)

Also. I do still plan to take a year off next year and go to Sweden. I want to take a beginners course in Swedish their and then continue taking classes until December (starting in September) But right now i am just trying to get some basic knowledge of Swedish so that i can speak with my boyfriend and other friends of mine in Swedish and it will help me when i first get to Sweden, so that i have some type of background in the language.

So, right now i am just trying to get the basics down. So that when i get to Sweden it will help me. And i will probably take the beginners course in Swedish..so that i can refresh information and i will probably learn new information since i can't learn a whole lot without taking classes...

I am started to understand the "Å" however the "Ö" and "Ä" are still a little difficult for me.

I find descriptions of how to make sounds to be particularly helpful. For the sound "Ö" pronounce a short "e" as in "pet" with rounded lips (like when you say "Oh!").

The "Ä" sound is harder to describe without using technical terms, but it is similar in construction to the "e" in "bed" (for most American speakers), but it is pronounced longer.

I find that if I have a general idea of how to form a vowel, I can then approach perfect pronunciation with the help of a native speaker or a recording of a native speaker.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it's very true. It seems to help a lot, if you can find another word that you already know and connect that with the pronunciation. Your examples make sense and it's helped me to understand those letters better!!!

Tack så mycket!

Also, as Diglot said another way is by listening to a recording of a native speaker that way you can listen to that and practice!

I am in the process of learning those letter. So if anyone knows of a good site for listening to native speakers in Swedish speaking the Ä and Ö, let me know!! :)
