It seems you may have a background in the languages of the region. Can you elaborate or point me to a posting about yourself if possible?

Unfortunately my knowledge in Pashto is very limited, but I have for some time now tried to find good resources for the learning of this interesting language. The difficulty of the language derives, in my opinion at least, not from its inherent complexities but rather from the lack of teaching material.
How much does Persian help you in understanding Pashto? Is it comparable to moving from English to French? If the transfer is big enough I might consider spending some time learning Persian first.
What material have you been able to find and use?

Although I am far from being an authority, it seems to me that optimistcally the relationship between Persian-Farsi and Pashtu is similar to that between Italian and Spanish. Alternatively, one could say that the similarities are less pronounced and that going from one language to another could be as difficult as going from Italian to Portuguese and vice-versa.
The resources on the web are quite limited. You will find some by searching on Google. I think the hardest part of trying to learn Pashtu is finding opportunities to speak with native speakers if you are residing in North America.
