I also tried to upload a sound file in which there was a part from a book of Platonas. It
was describing(according to him)the creation of animals.I wrote the ancient text and the
translation both in Modern Greek and English. But I can't seem to find the problem which
doesn't allow me to upoload it :( |

If you are trying to upload the file through the "Sounds" section of this forum then the problem is probably that the file is too big. You cannot exceed 500k which limits you to a very short reading. If you want to share a longer reading, the best way to do it is to upload it to one of the free file hosting sites (such as mediafire.com) and then share it.
By the way, it's Plato in English.

NikolGr, I think it's much the same with "us" Indians, even if some of us like me were born, grew up or have lived all their lives abroad. I'm learning Persian and Sanskrit, but not many people seem to know that these languages are about as closely related as Hindi is to Sanskrit. With respect to Greek, I believe we did have to learn most details, but maybe your class' treatment of it was more thorough than mine.
I would appreciate it very much if you manage to upload the Plato part eventually. If you know of some web site where books or audio fragments in the classical or modern language could be downloaded, I would like to know very much. I have come to like and tend to listen to modern Greek music and learn to understand quite a lot, but when I hear people talk very fast, I get lost. The same was true for Spanish years ago, but with the years I have improved my reading and hearing skills of this beautiful language immensely, so now I actually can follow most but not all of the dialogue on TV.
So far all I could find in old bookshops over here is a copy of the Iliad. It looks like I'd have to get most books and magazines I want to learn to read directly from Greece, but I don't know how. And yes, if you know of some video fragments or other material in which Katharevousa is being spoken, please let me know as well, because I think that is as close as classical Greek will ever be spoken in real life (outside of Greek Orthodox Church, that is). Now let me look for a copy of Antigone, I feel like catching up with understanding the characters and the text again :).

think that the results will be satisfying :(

This is what is heard in the file:
TRANSLATION IN English
Ancient Greek(I cannot translated it!It can't be)
Modern Greek:
There was a time when gods existed, but mortal creatures did not existed. And when the
determined by faith time came for them and their birth, gods molded them in the
interior of the ground after doing a mix of earth and fire and (a mix of) things that
can be mixed with fire and earth.
[if you need any explanation, let me know please :) ]

I have a hard time translating some words, but I will give it a shot. Please correct me when I'm wrong:
When they were hesitating to lead them to the light, the powers ordered to Prometheus and Epimetheus to ornate themselves and return for all, as is adequate. And Epimetheus himself requested Prometheus to return, "And when I return", he said "you will see." And he governs by convincing in that way.

That is very VERY impressive!!Congradulations!Although you didn't get the point and you
translated it a bit wrong :P But it is impressive!
When they were hesitating to lead them to the light: All correct!
the powers ordered to Prometheus and Epimetheus to ornate themselves and return for
all, as is adequate:they ordered Prometheus and Epimetheus to supply them and share to
each one of them the powers that fits to it.
And Epimetheus himself requested Prometheus to return, "And when I return", he said
"you will see."=Then Epimetheus requested Prometheus as a favor to do the sharing by
himself(although you were very close!), "And when I do the sharing", he said "you can
check on it"
And he governs by convincing in that way=and after he conviced him that way,he did the
sharing
But still I'm impressed :P!
You misunderstood some words that's all!
[p.s that is the continue part from the text I wrote above.Plato!)

I was thinking about a few things when reading the Ancient Greek text (I find it easier to understand than the Modern one :)) and came up with this:
Since there was once a time when there were gods, but mortal species didn't exist. And when for these the time of birth came that was determined by fate, the gods molded them within the earth after doing a mix from earth and fire and as many of them as is (can be?) mixed with earth and fire.
This may be too literal of a translation, but I wanted to make sure I understood everything correctly.
