???
you must've made interesting experiences...
I'm not offended, though I'd expect Germans to be, but I am curious - is this a local cliché or a faux-pas of your own making ?

I think it was just meant jokingly. :) I don't take offense at all. :)

Maybe I have a different perspective here, but if you are fluent in a language that many people are trying to learn (such as Spanish in the United States), then you could offer to help teach the women who are studying it.

There must not be a lot of women on this forum.
I'm a woman and like most women I like accents, there's no reason to deny it. My favorite is Russian.
Johnny Depp is good at this. (Apparently new members aren't allowed to post links, so just copy this url into the browser www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQiRtJ6uumk )

As a woman who also likes accents I feel qualified to give an answer to this question. I feel that when I'm talking to someone "foreign" in my own country that means they've traveled and probably have some interesting stories to tell! (If you're looking at it in a romantic way, it'll make for good dates ;))
Now if they have an accent that sounds like they're the native of a language I'm learning, all the better but it's not essential!

Sorry for jumping at you - I felt that the image of "spitting Germans" you conveyed did come accross as condescendant - much like what some of my friends (from Germany) have experienced in England.
In a similar vein, as much as I love Fawlty Towers, the episode about the German guests being constantly harassed by Basil about having lost the war shows you can joke about everything but not everyone.
All the best,
W.
