You got it. And don't forget power. (As manifested by your property, education, physical strength, or what have you.) Kinda sucks if you're a guy who pathetically believes in "romance" (like me). Even women don't believe in romance...they just pretend they do.

Really. You can read minds? Why bother learning another language, if you already know what she's thinking. :)

Ouch, direct hit. ;)

It's actually more difficult to know what oneself is thinking than others. Have we not all experienced both "instand disklike" and "love at first sight" ... and yet much more often "I don't know what I should do / whom I should pick / what would be best for me / her / us. / I don't know what I'm feeling. / I don't know where our relationship is standing / going / coming from."?

It's easy to know her mind - to know your own is the real challenge.

I really didn't mean for this to burst into flames. But every women who's intending to have kids is going to prefer the monolingual "Man with the Cold Hard Cash" (Madonna) to the studious, smart, kind (romantic) polyglot. I firmly stand by that.

We're not in this for the women. ;)

If that were true smart guys would be on their way to extinction, having no opportunity whatsoever to participate in the gene pool. That's not the case I think and smartness can also be attractive (given the right presentation.)

I have no interest in women whatsoever, but for those of you who do, rest assured no human being is capable of genuinely falling in love with "money". They are simply too abstract; They don't have pheromones. Personal qualities (of body and mind) are much more important.

Let me give you an example. Imagine a guy, that is shamelessly rich but not by some virtue of his own. He simply inherited millions upon millions of $ from his father (or uncle or whatever). However, he is also very stupid and that is obvious in all of his endeavours; He is also repulsive in his appearance, in spite of the desperate efforts of his personal stylists and hairdressers. Actually he doesn't have much need for hairdressers because he is completely bald.

Now, let's add a woman. That woman, behaving in accordance with the behavioural patterns mentioned above, is completely in love. She is mesmerized by the money, by the power and really, really is genuinely in love because of them.

Does this sound realistic? Not at all. There is no place for genuine love ins such a scenario. Our protagonist may find a woman, in fact perhaps the women will be queueing for his attention, but none will love him.

Somebody might argue that the example is not valid, because the money were not gained by personal effort. But if they were, then some personal virtues would be in action, be it intellect, ingenuity, entrepreneurship or daring boldness. They would be the real attraction, not money or power.

And furthermore, booksmart people are also attractive for women, just a different subset of them. I can tell; Personal experience :). Too bad I had to disappoint all of them.

Sennin, you must know very different women than me if you haven't seen money being preferred over other, in our view better, qualitites.

However, you misunderstood me. I just said that certain women (like the ones wanting children) would prefer money over sheer smartness for practical reasons. Of course, if they can have both, they'll take both. To deduce extinction of smart people from this is, well, bluntly put, illogical.

I suggest you read about the Equity theory, revised by Waltster et al., 1978, quoted in Sozialpsychologie der Partnerschaft for example. There you can see for yourself how high the percentage of women who prefer money over smarts are, and how important money is, not only for the starting phase (what was referend to here as "flaunting") but also for the persistent success of a relationship.

Okay, since that's off topic, this is my last post on this subject in this thread. I am sorry I brought it up. Bad move.

This is also my last post on the topic (since it's getting boring).

Obviously there are males on here who refuse to believe that there are women who are put off by piles of money (such as myself). Fair enough, you're entitled to that (naive) attitude. After all, it's a good smug feeling knowing that I know otherwise ;)

And to the woman above me by a few posts who said that he shouldn't bother learning a language with that attitude towards people - I agree!

theres something known as subconscious...think what you want but it'll always be the real decision maker. And it likes money among other things.
