I spent two hours at IKnow!, getting caught up with my vocabulary. I'm doing two lists, Core6000-1 and I'm reviewing Steps 4-8. That's about 21 lessons.

Oh, and I've been moonlighting with French. I can't believe I'm doing this. I can barely keep up with the two languages I've been studying already. Yet there it was, Assimil "Französisch Ohne Mühe", and it said "Buy me." I've never tried anything like an Assimil program before, and I'm just dying to know how much I can learn from it. I just can't resist. The accent is so much fun...

Ich habe mir ASSIMIL "Türkisch ohne Mühe" zugelegt. Dazu gehören 4 Audio CDs, die kosten 88 EUR (!!!), das ist natürlich ganz schön teuer. Die Qualität des Audiomaterials ist aber sehr gut, ich habe da schon mal reingehört. Ich selber habe noch gar keine Lernerfahrung mit ASSIMIL und ich kann noch nicht so richtig einschätzen, inwieweit diese Methode zu meinem persönlichen Lerntyp passt. Daher bin ich für alle geäußerte Erfahrungen, die andere Lerner mit ASSIMIL machen, sehr dankbar. Bei uns sieht es so aus, dass wird vor Ende 2009 wohl nicht mit ASSIMIL anfangen werden, da wir noch ein anderes Buch dazwischen schieben werden, wenn wir mit "Güle Güle" fertig sind. Fasulye, ich gehe langsam voran! Ich habe in die ersten 2 Lektionen nur die Aussprache einzelner Laute nachgeahmt und ich muss sagen, es macht echt Spass :) Vor dem Kauf war ich hin und hergerissen, ob ich nicht Assimil Spanisch kaufen sollte. Schliesslich kenne ich mich mit der Sprache schon aus (aus der Schulzeit) und ich wollte dieses (teure) Geld für etwas "uneheimliches" ausgeben. Französisch ist mir wirklich fremd. Es wird interessant!
Ich lese La Ventana Abierta von AlbaLearning.com und ich übe die Spanische Sprache. Mit Französisch übe ich Est- ce qu'il. Es wird eine Weile dauern bevor ich etwas wertvolles zu berichten habe, aber danke (falls du fürs "zuhören" Zeit hast)! I've been searching in my own library for some reading materials to help a few students I've been tutoring and I've come across Green Eggs and Ham, a children's book which has some excellent examples of Conditional 1 and Will-Future 1. My students are reading Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and Shakespeare (!) but they're still getting stuck on "would" and "will" (Simple). I tried to keep busy with my languages today. I don't have a set schedule but I try to be consistent with the scriptorium technique and shadowing.
Assimil French: I've read through/listened up to Lesson 12. I'd say I've gotten everything I can out of lessons 1-8, for the time being. I haven't done the little quizes to catch the spelling errors, I'm hoping the scriptorium technique will help with that. I've been shadowing the lessons with the CD many times a day. I really like the pronunciation guide! I haven't found a consistent means for learning vocabulary yet...Assimil is giving me everything I need for right now. Japanese: I shadowed Soseki again for about 6 minutes. I've listened to all the senteces from IKnow! Level 7. Doyle's list is at 70% completion and the JLPT 3 List is at 50%. I'm struggling through Core 6000, first level -- not easy for me. I'm about to go read through my Japanese grammar book. I haven't been reading at all lately... From 7:00 to 8:00 I reviewed lessons 1-12 Assimil French. It wasn't "real shadowing" because I was doing a bunch of stuff like driving my daughter to school and getting ready for my day.
8:00-8:30 I listened to Japanese. When I came home I remembered that IKnow! is down for the day so I started over in my Japanese grammar book. I'm going back to the first lesson. I'll try to be consistent. It seems that those lessons at IKnow! take up a lot of time. I may have to stop some of them for a while. I feel like I'm barely staying above water in terms my ability to understand and use the language. I had to leave again at 10:00 but I kept my earplugs with me. I listened and shadowed as best I could, switching every 20 minutes between the Japanese CD for my JFBP and Assimil. After midday it got hard for me to do any kind of study. I got on the computer and started working on a lesson plan for this week's tutoring session. The kids also kept me pretty busy. I didn't get back to doing language. It's 10:00 now and I'm exhausted. I find my concentration (not to mention my ability to handle more than one task) starts to taper off after 3:00. Mornings are better for learning. I've had quite a few interruptions today.
I've been reviewing lessons 6-11 with Assimil Französisch. I shadowed the text while looking at the book. I didn't have time for the scriporium technique today. Maybe after work... Lesson 10 and 11 are packed with new vocabulary so it's taking me a lot of time to get through them. Lesson 12 looks like a review. I've just visited IKnow! and I'm not that impressed with the new format. They were down for two days just to make the sit look prettier. I see that my lists have been put with my Cerego lessons, so I guess that's a small improvement. I haven't done any lessons today. I reviewed some sentences (18/34pages) from Step 7. I read from the kanji only to see what I couldn't recognize and here are the words where I needed the furigana .. 飛行場、救急車、鏡、直す、欠席する、寂し い局、尊敬、、我慢、国籍、余る、握手、注 射、怒ります、失う、恋人、作文、冷蔵庫 、測る、板、郵便物、独身、苦い、伸びてす る、被る、禁煙、次男、海外、引っ越します 、旅、週刊誌 I'm trying to find the best way to review. Going through IKnow! lessons takes up a lot of time. I don't see it as being very efficient if I'm just reviewing. I'll continue looking at the sentence lists and I'll skip the lessons for now. I'm still shadowing lessons 7-12 Französisch Ohne Mühe. I also found a dictation course from Stark-Verlag. At 6.00 Euros (book with with 2 CDs) it was a real bargain. I've only gone over 2 nasal vowel sounds. (I feel like Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" -- except it's French.) "Il prend le train à Paris, mais le train est plein,.... bien, copain, un....." It's what I need right now.
I've gone over about 200 words from level 9 IKnow! (or whatever the new name of the site is..) and I've made new flashcards of each. It took a few hours to review since I wanted to read the all sentences which get displayed when you click on the item. The sentences come from other lists. I'll try to do another batch of words soon.
