I'll have to let my log drop down for a while. I'm working four nights this week. (A few of my colleagues are on fall break.) The busier I get the more I view this log as somewhat of a luxury. Keeping it sure is fun -- it's fun to see how far I've come -- and yet, I don't guess it would hurt to just let it lie dormant for a while. Sleep sounds pretty good, right now. I've been burning the candle at both ends.

It's OK, just take a TAC - break and come back to logging, when your time schedule allows it. Your log is really inspiring, as you are a very busy language learner - even under some chaotic circumstances (moving house). See you back again and take care! It really is fun, I don't want to take a break ^^. I'm a bit worried that I won't make any of my goals. I've been so incredibly tired lately that I lose myself here in the forum and before you know it -whoops- one hour has flown by. I've decided to quit TAC. The reason for that is that I've been given a new work schedule and haven't been able to get in enough study time.
I'm so far behind that I won't be able to complete my goals before the end of the year. So in giving up my TAC I bow my head in shame m(__)m and salute the rest of you TACers in your pursuit for the finish line! Good luck! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Sunja, nobody will check, if you have achieved all of your goals stated on the first page, but whether you have a very active and interesting TAC log, which is fun for many people to read. I think that you overestimate the importance of achieving certain goals.

Sunja, you're a winner in my book. You have approximately four log entries per week - that's a huge number. One per week or month is sufficient. It's a great log and you have put a lot of effort with Japanese. TAC is also for busy people with families. Don't let the "reporting" in this log turn into too much of a chore. It is supposed to be a record of your activities and a motivator to continue with the effort until the Japanese tomato er language blossoms. You can provide a short summary of your achievements at the end of December.

Okay. I'm back. What an incredibly busy X-mas/New Year season.
Wow, reineke. (^_^) I've been away but -- thanks for your support! It's really interesting to see the flood of new TAC 2010 titles. I don't quite know where to begin a summary. I guess I can try with this... My biggest accomplishment: I'm finally to the point where I can read Japanese. I'm reading HP and seeing the language in a novel format has been an eye-opening experience. It's almost a shame to leave each page and forget the words for a time (until I meet them again somewhere). All the hard work I spent doing Anki and lists at smart.fm; not to mention the worksheets, quizzes and JLPT preparation books paid off, somewhat. Well, I think not sticking to any one of those was the reason for my advancement. Another big accomplishment was me having (at one time) 6 penpals. I think it's been pared down to about 3 now... I haven't heard from Yukari since she left Sydney and went back to Japan. Kana is working on her house and Mari is busy teaching English. Tomomi, Kyamina and Mariko are my most frenquent correspondants. -- geez, I really have to write them tomorrow -- they sent me some cute Year-End e-cards. Spanish I thought I would mention Spanish since it was my goal at the beginning of 2009. It was dropped but not all-together forgotten. French French was started during 2009 and is going strong at the moment -- a reason why my other log has been so slow. (Harry still hasn't made it to Hogwarts.) I started doing Assimil during the year and I'm half-way through. I can understand the gist of most all-French podcast material (écoute). I can also follow Yabla. They have these wonderful "slow-play" and "loop" features on their videos which allows me to shadow the real stuff. Other than that, Smart.fm's lists for french are not as good as the Japanese Core sets -- but I've taken on two (beginner word) lists with them anyway. Quite easy. I'm working on my French grammar using books for 1st year French (German Gymnasium).  JLPT 2 is my "carrot on a stick"
Japanese: I have my feet firmly planted in intermediate turf (to extend reineke's "blossom" metaphor) Now that I can read and understand more, year 2010 should be a year for reading, listening.
