All the best resources are predominantly in English, so it's a no-go for me. The end

Not necessarily so -- Assimil has a huge range of pretty good materials in French.

There are also differences between the English and French versions of some Assimil
courses such as Arabic, where the English version has far fewer lessons.

I learned Spanish with English, and it worked pretty well.
It actually really helped me with brushing up on my basic English.

I read the polymath thread and it made me think about reinforcing the previous language in other ways. I will be buying books on Algebra and Arithmetic by Aurelio Baldor which is in Spanish. This way I will learn the vocabulary for these subjects and I am aware of the topic already. Besides I feel like reviewing math all over again to strengthen that skill.
I even talked with two French speakers and they informed me that the subject of Economics, they learned through English. It is in my opinion just like exchange students learn other subjects if your ability in the language is strong enough to comprehend, then do it.
One sequence I will do is French through Spanish in addition to other resources of course. I am still debating with French or Cebuano. If anybody wants to know I have actually found a list of Cognates with English and Spanish to Cebuano. (Not too many words.) I am somewhat using resources from previous languages to learn another which might not have an actual program to learn from. (Except in this case there is an English course to learn Cebuano, but I have not found a Spanish one.)
