Paparaciii,

I'm afraid your list fits the Bulgarian stereotype too ;). Admittedly, with some minor changes....

I don't agree with the view of English people from the Google searches that people did.

For the most part outside of London and Manchester English people are extremely nice and friendly - it's most welcoming and friendly country you could imagine, without being overbearing or in your face.

But London is affected by a very greedy business culture, soul-destroying commutes and masochistic working hours. People are extremely materialistic and stressed. House prices are insane and people get drawn into an extreme cycle of materialism and workoholism that otherwise hardly exists in Europe.

In addition London is probably filled with at least 30 - 40% foreigners (like me). The situation in London knocks the niceness out of the most charming English person...

With regard to English people, I think women are much nicer than men. Men are rather grumpy ;p

@michau
I would suggest a search for "Polish people". It's crucial to add "people" because "polish" alone won't make a difference :).

Here's one including the negative responses for Americans:

Americans are known to be bad listeners and have an inclination for 'bulldozing' the matters
Americans are known to be crude, and loud, and vulgar, and arrogant, and know-it-all
Americans are known to be very comfortable being informal.
Americans are known to be friendly, informal
Americans are known to be generous, willing to come to the aid of people
Americans are known to be fatter than most
Americans are known to be risk takers
Americans are known to be the most ignorant

Hmm...those all sound familiar ;)

Here's the other variation:

Americans are such suckers if they believe that a job is the only way to have pride
Americans are such hypocrites
Americans are such fools
Americans are such prudes
Americans are such a materialistic oriented people
Americans are such F*cking RETARDS
Americans are such disgusting slaves that military torture turns them on
Americans are such gluttons
Americans are such greedy people

Well, that was a bit less positive ;)

So, to summarize, we are fat, greedy, dumb, hypocrites who love shouting how we know everything (while torturing someone of course!). On the bright side, we shout in an informal and friendly manner.

This was an interesting exercise...

The Dutch are known to be:

the only Germans that have not embraced Red as the true color of the Reich. (From this hilarious site.)
traders
a direct and fairly extroverted lot
stingy and cheap charlies
very keen readers
a frugal nation
the tallest people in the world
straight talkers
straight forward in their approach
earthy and sensible people
rather comfortable in their own skin
experts at oil retrieval
thrifty, tidy and picky
uninhibited
a coffee-loving nation
tighter than a Scot
forceful, stubborn and tough negotiators
experts in dredging
curious, critical and well-informed
friendly and open-minded
a tolerant bunch
extremely fast-eating people
one of the highest consumers of milk and milk products
the most open-minded of all European people
hardcore bargain hunters who seriously take the art of bargaining-negotiating to a different level
less formal and more down to earth
extremely liberal people, but also very stubborn
a cold people

Google pretty much gets it right. ;-)

The Dutch are such:

spoiled brats
nice people
filth
limitless drug abusers
awesome people
good linguists
big fans of paid sex
good speakers of English
perfectionists
wonderful people
keen campers
clean people
big prostitution fans
a mish-mash of people coming and going that they're definitely not Teutonic
great travellers
a talented lot
sore losers
nutters sometimes

I'm getting mixed messages here. ;-)

Okay... stereotypes of the Welsh (looked up in both Welsh and English)

1. Lots of rivalry between North and South.

2. Good at rugby (true, but was much more so a couple of decades ago)

3. Welsh women tend to be "in-charge" - definitely true for most of my family and friends.

4. We're good at singing - makes me chuckle somewhat but it's true. A lot of my older relatives have belonged to a choir at some point in their lives.

5. We're all miners - God no, the coal mines were shut down years ago.

6. The national vegetable is the leak - in so far as it's our national "flower", as the thistle is to the Scots, yes.

7. We taught the English how to write - depending on who you talk to, we've probably taught the English everything - this one was written in Welsh and I'm still laughing.

8. It rains a lot in Wales - true, but not alot more than it rains in London or in the Midlands, I find.

9. Our language has long words - and many of my friends are convinced we don't have vowels. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch :]

Blackadder wrote:
"Have you ever been to Wales, Baldrick?"
"No, but I've often thought I'd like to."
"Well, don't. It's a ghastly place. Huge gangs of tough sinewy men roam the valleys terrorising people with their close-harmony singing. You need half a pint of phlegm in your throat just to pronounce the place names. Never ask for directions in Wales, Baldrick; you'll be washing spit out of your hair for a fortnight."

10. A sense of being marginalised in British culture - somewhat true but get over it.

11. Intense local pride - and yet so many Welsh people can't speak Welsh... go figure.

12. South Wales valleys accent is difficult to understand - absolute rubbish, but they do seem to end all their sentences with "a?"

13. Different accents everywhere - definitely true.

14. We're supposed to be tight with our money - dunno about the rest but I am.

15. We're poetic. Hmm. A lot of Welsh poetry always seems to be recited at the Eisteddfod - which is an annual celebration of Welsh culture - and everything I've ever read in Middle Welsh is poetry. So I'll agree with our being poetic, even if I can't write poetry to save my life.
