With the new year upon us, let's start a new thread. What are our language goals?

I'll do the final solution with my English and Russian and then, at the end of the year, will probably start Spanish or Swedish. Haven't decided yet.

Take my German to the point where I can comfortably read Der Spiegel with a dictionary by my side by the middle of the year.

I think it's about time to activate my German - I've mostly been reading and listening for quite some time now. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't want to feel like a complete idiot if/when I meet native speakers and barely can keep a basic conversation.

Learn Korean and have Advanced Fluency in Japanese. I want to increase "passive"

• Improve my understanding of spoken English (especially non GA accents) and my speech fluency

I'd like to reach basic fluency in French, preferably till the end of Juni, when I'm still abroad and able to use the language pretty often.
Other important goal is native-like fluency in German (from advanced fluency). Well, this one is probably a life-long challenge... but it'd like to improve my vocabulary, my ability to recognize and copy different registers of the language etc. I wouldn't mind improving my understanding of spoken Swiss German during the first half of the year but it has a low priority and I'm not going to spend much time on that, so I'm rather unlikely to succeed. I'll take a course of Italian because of some possibilities to speak it, but only if I find a decent course at my university (I'm not going to study it by myself). The second half of the year depends strongly on what I'm going to do at this time (work, studies, going abroad etc. - I'm still not sure). Possible goals, apart from improving French and German, would be being able to read pretty fluently (with dictionary) and to hold a conversation in Dutch and/or Russian/Czech till the end of the year. I may also start learning a new language (from the list: Swedish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Hungarian). 1 person has voted this message useful |
