International Languages:
* Keep on practicing and learning English, French, Italian, Portuguese and German; in that order.
* Keep on practicing reading Ancient Greek and Hebrew. Maybe also Latin.
Native Mexican Languages:
* Go on learning and practicing Tzotzil, Tzeltal and Ch'ol, in this order too.
* Learn to read and write these languages -as much as possible- in classical mayan writing, I mean glyphs. I've started already and I have found a good bibliography mainly from the Houston and Austin Universities. Amazing!
* Keep on practicing Nahuatl.
I also would like to find out, if true, about the connection, influence and similitudes between Chinese (Mandarin? Cantonese?) and Ancient Mayan languages. I've read something about this, but I don't know whether it's based on historical arguments or it's pure fiction.

Spanish - maintain my present level while brushing up on vocabulary and some grammatical weaknesses. Find a way to speak it regularly at school to keep it fresh. Other than that, I need to force myself to read Spanish (internet articles, etc.) frequently.
German - get to a solid intermediate level, especially with active knowledge. I need to be able to speak and express myself much better. I'll audit a German course and go to speaking sessions as much as I can. Also, I need to find a source for reading that's not too challenging (maybe some children's books).
Hindi - keep going with my course, make sure not to forget what I haven't covered the past month. I'm nowhere near Bollywood-level, but I'd like to be able to understand movies and music with some help by the end of the year, which I think it very doable.
Mandarin - Zao Gao! I have no idea when I'll be able to get back to this language. I wish I could've kept with it and kept my speaking level up but it wasn't really working at the time. Hopefully I'll be able to recover some of what I knew (speaking-wise, I don't have too much ambition to learn the written language just yet) and get back to a level where I feel comfortable conversing with a native.
Russian, French and/or Turkish - get to a basic level with one or two of these as a starting point for later study, travel and potential work. Essentially, I would be very happy if I could make basic conversation with one or two of these by the middle of the year, something I think I can do by going over them maybe 3 times a week and finding a native speaker for help. I *might* audit a Russian course, but I'll decide that the first week of classes.
Hopefully I'll keep to this plan in the chaos that is undergraduate studies, but it's more than possible if I put a little work into it.

My goals for 2009 are to obtain more knowledge of the Arabic dialects. Specifically I want to learn Egyptian and Iraqi. I've got a good foundation in MSA but understanding common speech and idioms is tough for me. I'm tackling Egyptian first and then on to Iraqi. I'm going to try to watch as many shows in Egyptian as I can and see if, after a few weeks, I start to notice improvement. Also when I hear a word I don't know in a program I go to Yahoo! Answers and ask the people in the Egypt Travel section what it means lol. I always find the meaning! This is the only way that I've found to find the meaning of words in the Arabic dialects because there is a dearth of dictionaries for the dialects. There are good ones for MSA, but I guess no one figures that anyone wants to learn the languages that people actually speak. =\

I want to try out Norwegian. Nothing more. If I can even get to a beginner level on top of my other school studies, I'll be happy. Also, I could brush up on my Spanish by reading the Spanish newspaper once in awhile but I seem to be fine in that department.

I have a stack of 20 dual-language books in French and English and I'm almost done with the first one. Reading one per week is realistic for now, but it'll get faster. Then I throw away the crutches.

For 2009, my goals are the following:
-Pass a B2 level exam in russian (shouldn't be too much of a problem) and hopefully C1 (I fear my writing skills and grammar aren't good enough). Keep reading a lot.
-Work my way through basic persian (will start in may)
-Start studying serbo-croatian and hopefully reach lower intermediate level.
Am quite looking forward to start with persian!
