I completed Michel Thomas Advanced Disk 2 yesterday
I did Pimsleur 2 lesson 26 and 27. I'm not sure if i skipped some. I might go back and
do over the lessons previous to those.
Today I completed up to page 27 of Schaum's Grammar Outline.

I think I might skip some exercises in the section of Schaum's I am in and do them
later in order to do other sections. It goes deep in each area (articles, nouns, etc.)
and I'd rather get an overview then go back over several times deepening my knowledge
in each section. I would rather study this way than become an expert on nouns first
then go on to verbs. I've definitely answered many questions I had about grammar
patterns I had noticed.

I'm going to try and read my Easy Italian Reader. I keep falling asleep reading it in
bed. I fall asleep reading anything in bed at a late hour. I can be on the computer
until 3:00 am but fall asleep reading in bed at 11:00 pm.

I finished up to and including chapter 11 in the Easy Italian Reader. At first it was a
little dull describing the two main characters families and residences but the last
couple of chapters have been more interesting. I scanned ahead and saw that it
describes tours they take of several Italian cities which sounds interesting. I'm
really eager to get to the second part as it tells the history of Italy.

I also started reading a grammar exercise book I picked up: Practice Makes Perfect:
Complete Italian Grammar. I figure I will scan it doing the exercises in my head to get
a quick overview. Later I will go back and write and check my answers or do that in the
Shaum's book.

I put my first journal entry in Italian on Lang-8.com. I hope someone looks at it and
makes corrections if needed. I plan on posting on LiveMocha.com as well. I would rather
focus my output efforts on writing for now as it is easier to see and correct.

I plan to go back to doing Assimil as well. Assimil's value is without doubt in my mind
but I personally need more explicit grammar instruction from another source. I imagine
someone with a strong linguistic background could easily infer grammar rules from the
text but before this effort I hadn't studied a language in some 20 years.

I did Assimil lesson 51 this morning including the second wave part which was going
back
and translating lesson 1. I messed up the conjugations. I really need more practice
generating Italian. On the plus side I can understand what I am reading quite well.

I listened to Italian radio on the internet at work. I need to focus on what is being
said to really understand it, but I find I can understand it very well. If I miss a
word
I can figure it out by context or by continuing to listen which fills in more of the
puzzle. If I listen passively I catch a lot of words and phrases and have an idea of
what
is being talked about but not as complete as when I focus, but I have to work.

I'm also using the Easy Italian Reader. I'm happy to hear that it gets more interesting later.

Hi Drip. Thanks for dropping by and posting.

I bought it because, in addition to having great reviews on Amazon, when I skimmed
through it I found that about half of it was all about the history of Italy, from the
founding of the Roman Republic to post-world-war two modern day Italy. It started slow
but has picked up. In the last lesson the kids were recalling the past and using past
and imperfect tenses. In the lesson prior to that they were discussing prepositions.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about Italy.

My question is: Which Easy Italian Reader are you reading? Could you quote me the title? I have got - still unread - several Easy Readers for Italian, level A. I will want to read them, so any experience of another reader would be useful to know.
