Finally, work is done. Itāll probably be at least 2 weeks before the ābossā comes back soooo, yeah...Iām going to have some free time for Russian. Sweeeeeet. (*knock on wood*). |

Well I had hoped to have atleast 2 weeks of doing nothing but Russian, but alas...thereās always something. The mayor called me up today to tell me that a construction company just rolled into town and they were looking for a worker. So I went to go check them out. Took me 1 minute to get a job. The conversation went like this,
Me ā āIām looking for Johnā
John ā āYou found himā
Me- āI hear your looking for a workerā *pass John resume
John - takes resume...glances at it for about 20 seconds and then looks at me āHow does $17 an hour sound?ā
Brian ā āIt sounds pretty niceā
John-ā Good, we start at 7 a.m., see you tomorrowā *pass resume back and turns around and walks away.
1 minute, wow... Iām sooo slipping...thatās twice as long as it took me to get hired on my last job. Must be a recession or something.....
So yeah, Iām back on the job again. This company looks like itāll be doing 12 hr days...so that means time and a half will add up pretty quickly. I can probably rake these suckers for $200 a day lol. Itāll pay for University...but itās going to make finding time for Russian complicated. Iāll find a way though...Iām not yet ready to eat my words on ānot enough hours in one dayā.
Russian will have its day yet. I figure for next time, Iāll actually knock on wood instead of just typing it.

Random Thoughts...
I was reading an article on how the last 5 out of 12 American presidents were left-handed, which is unusual considering lefties make up only about 10% of the American population. SAT scores too, in the top group 20% were lefties. I wonder if this would hold true for language learners because in lefties are usually better represented in societies more intellectual groups? But at the same time arenāt lefties the one who tend to have more language problems then righties? Wouldnāt that mean that thereād be less lefties learning languages then, even though its a more intellectual activity? Random thoughts.
Lol, in my reading I find ālefties normally do less well on the phonology of a languageā amusing considering Iām a leftie and the bulk of my efforts is going to the āsoundā of Russian. I have my excuse though, were I took my elementary violin (as well as chess and typing) were fully integrated into our grade school curriculum. Violin started at grade 2 and continued till grade 8. But we were taught violin abit differently. After the basics most people are taught to teach themselves through āreading musicā...not us, we were taught to teach ourselves through āhearing musicā. As our instructor used to say, donāt read the notes, hear them...and play them. With all that time I spent teaching myself songs through ālisteningā itās only natural that the āsoundsā of Russian are what Iād focus on.
Anyways though yeah...another question to contemplate.

Well I was pretty close about the hours, 91 hours a week...and time and a half after 40 : ) sweet. There was actually quite a few people who wanted that job too, many a people are swearing my name right now...soo business as usual I guess lol. Meh whatever though, there are over 6 billion people on this planet and if anyone time if Iām only pissing off a few hundred...Iād have to say Iām doing pretty damn good.
It'll be interesting finding time to fit Russian into my work schedule, once you take away working and sleeping...Iāll have three hours left. If I can carve 45 minutes of out that Iāll be quite pleased.
Anyways though I should head off to sleep, morning comes early...and hopefully with abit of luck tomorrow we wonāt knock out water to half the town again. Water spraying 10 meters into the air is cool...having to fix it is not.

With my knew schedule, the best I can manage is about an hour of listening...word drill is just not going to happening lol. I feel like such a slacker, not doing any actually study. I know iām not, listening is part of learning Russian...it just seems too easy. Itās this new job though, my free time is kinda gone.
And howās that going? Meh, itās my normal job. 2nd day of work the boss is already picking me up in the mornings and driving me home after work, been offered a full time job in Winnipeg and the construction crew loves me...they all told the ābig bossā today that āBrian doesnāt know it yet, but weāre taking him back to Winnipeg with usā....yeah, itās my normal job.
Becoming a little annoyed though with one of my co-workers. This guy from Portugal, just got his Canadian citizenship a few years back... doesnāt really care for Canada. In his mind Portugal is soooo much better. Damn near told him to go back to his Portugal if itās so great. Held my tongue though...2nd day on the job. Usually I donāt get too bothered by people who have strong feelings for their native country, itās human...this is different though. Too many of MY people have lost their jobs lately...and too see this āindividualā getting paid $250 a day for āconstruction laborā...itās bullshit. He doesnāt even identify as Canadian, 100% Portuguese. As far as Iām concerned he should be put on the next flight back to Portugal...heās nothing but a foreigner whoās taking the job of a native born Canadian.
I guess there is a silver lining though, this is his second day with this company...he was hired on through a friend of a friend as a favor for another friend...and they already want to fire him lol. One small step from useless this guy is. So its just a matter of time before he does get canned and is replaced by someone who was actually born in this country.
