While the free time I once had has been substantially reduced due to recent positive events learning of Russian continues unabated. The penalty for relocation and reestablishment was minor thanks to Russian being firmly established as a habit previously.
I believe this change will be a favourable one. Despite having less overall time available, Russia itself has just come into my reach. Nothing I could achieve on my own would be able to match the progress that could be made by surrounding myself with native Russian speakers and having native Russian teachers.
Before year 1 is up I will see Russia with my own eyes. I need to put Russia into context and form an opinion of whether it has a place in my life. Times have changed and I must change with them, practical considerations must take priority.
Moscow and St. Petersburg have been identified as the two primary cities. Moscow is the Federal Capital, and St. Petersburg used to be the Federal Capital. These cities will be bypassed. Any culture can make their capital cities look impressive and for that reason alone they will be ignored. I want to see what Russia really looks like. I'm thinking Volgograd should be an excellent first choice. But I will make up my mind for sure later.

Day 122
Well I found my native Russian speaker. Working on the particulars of the āagreementā now. As predicted, my initial impressions suggest that she is a student. What are her qualification?...um native Russian lol. She seems eager to teach me Russian though so thatās a plus. I figure $25 an hour for about 4 hours a week should be a decent wage. I could probably get away with offering her $15 an hour, because she is āso eagerā, but no I donāt want to go down that path trying to bottom out her wages. Last thing I want is a pissed off Russian teaching me Russian.

Day 126
Well didnāt even meet my Native Russian tutor yet and Iāve already decided Iām firing her ass. We agreed that she would teach me Russian @ $25.00 an hour. Any Canadian, American, Brit or Aussie would understand perfectly what that means, $25 for 60 minutes of work. And in our last conversation she throwās in āAcademic hourā and apparently that means 1 hour is actually 45 minutes. 2 words...f**k her. I will not pay someone $33 an hour to teach me Russian. $25 an hour was very reasonable and even a little generous. It was a fair offer and I will not negotiate or compromise on my terms. And now I that I feel quite annoyed, that offer has just been rescinded.
It couldāve been interesting. Pity. Whatever though, there are more Russians out there and with a little bit of luck...maybe the next one will have an understanding that 1 hour = 60 minutes.

In Russian schools and universities the size of teach courses and the workload of teachers are measured in academic hours.

Thatās the funny thing, she didnāt. She said as naturally as we would say good morning or thank you. There was no hesitation whatsoever. If she had any ill intent I definitely didnāt pick up on it. My guess is that she chose the method she was most familiar with for teaching and learning based on her experiences (Russian educational system) without considering how such a system would be viewed here in North America where it is not unheard of for people to be paid by the minute. She has a decent control of the language yes, but as for culture...she still has a ways to go apparently.
