The "great tip"

Free bilingual texts

There is this program called E-sword.
It is a program that allows you to read the bible and compare it with other versions
and languages of the bible.

No - the bible does not use "thou" and so forth - unless you want it to -just download
a new translation.

You can download it here:
http://www.e-sword.net/

There are bibles available in: Italian, Norwegian, Afrikaans, Greek, Finish, Hebrew,
Serbian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and something like 35-40 other languages.

You can compare up 4 languages at a time.

Here is an example of the king james version and a romanian.

Click here to see the example (picture)

Today
I am leaving this forum ...

... for a while.

Have to focus a little more on learning Romanian when turning my computer on, rather
than reading ABOUT learning.

See you soon.

So this is what I have done the last 3 days.

Wrote with my penpal
This is really cool.

We write in, and translate into, our native language only.

So he writes to me in Romanian and I translate it into Danish. Then I write to him in
Danish and add the translation... and vice versa.

This is the basic "idea" here in the beginning, and it works really well.
(I do write a little Romanian in each e-mail and he corrects me.)

Sentences on flashcards
I THINK it was at japaneseallthetime.com that I read that learning in sentences would
be a good idea, and why. And it convinced me. I simply just can't remember why.

But it helps me to see the words in action. Then I will know when and how to use them.
I will keep using more sentences on my flashcards in the future.

But, not everything should be sentences. Some things simply can not be translated
literally so if you do not understand every single word, it is hard to grasp the idea
of the sentence... I hope you know what I mean.

So I will keep adding words (and sentences) to my flashcards.

Learned about personal pronouns and reflexive verbs
The use of the pronouns as in Romanian is very new to me. A real challenge. I can
recommend http://romanianlessons.com/.

It is a great source for learning the basics of Romanian grammar.

Printed the pages for DLI Romanian out from my computer. (Lesson 4, 5 and 6)
Can't wait to begin.. Weee. :D Language learning is fun.
Download this course in your target language if you do not have it!

Downloaded the bible in Romanian
The plan is to L/R and be shadowing using my Romanian bible. But I really do not know
if I am going to listen to this or not. I do not think so, but now I have it.

Conclusion
aka. all my wise words - until I change my mind again.

1. Go with sentences, and not single words. But still understand every single word.
2. Get a "penpal". You can use www.sharedtalk.com
3. KEEP ON GOING and make sure it is fun learning. Or at least not boring.

I want to share something with you.

Yesterday a girl wrote to me: je dois dormir, bon nuit.

I do not speak french at all, but I KNEW that I knew what it ment.
But I did not know why. I was looking at this, telling my self: "I KNOW what this
means", but no bells rang. Very frustrating feeling.

I do not speak French or Romanian but look at this "word by word" translation:
je dois dormir, bon nuit.
eu voi dormi bună noapte.

I am preeeetty confident that in french French "je dois dormir, bon nuit" means:
"I have to sleep, goodnight."

Bonus! Free french.

3800 views. Someone must be watching this thread.
Let me know if you find anything here useful or maybe just read once in a while.

These last 2 days I have not studies anything! I tend to do this. Study a lot and then
take a break for a few days. I have so many other things to do. But do not fear - I
WILL learn Romanian! And I will keep my log going.

Anyway, let me know if you follow, and please vote if you find something useful. That
way I will learn what is important to you and what is plain boring.

I'm watching this thread, too. I find your log, and Romanian, interesting. I don't really have anything else to add right now.
