I know that in the French and Spanish courses the beeping is only for the first few tracks. After that it's assumed you can know when to respond!

Why, would they even have it to begin with? The horrible beeping sound sure put me off. How hard is it for him to ask a question and leave a pause like a normal human being?

The recording engineers were too lazy to edit the long pauses out, so they put those beeps in there instead. They had to earn their keep somehow.

I rather suspect the recording engineers were paid top pound to make the beeps as obnoxious as possible, so as to remind the inexperienced language dog to bark its answers out loud instead of silently chasing its tail.
After several tracks of Pavlovian training, they dropped the beeps and proceeded to rely on the newly acquired conditioned reflex to produce the needed response.

The beeps only last a few minutes out of 8 hours. You really should'nt give up on this course because of that. Mind you if the beeps were for the full 8 hours I think I would have gone insane.

Are you talking about the beeps in the very beginning of the beginner courses? As Roger noted, they disappear after less than a minute. Hardly a reason to dispose of the whole course.

Are all of Michel Thomas' language programs good, or are some language sets better than others? How is the Spanish one (all the way up to the advanced courses)?
