Does anyone know anything about the new Russian course?

I read earlier that these new Michel Thomas courses in Russian, Arabic and Mandarin actually involve native speakers, surely that can only make these already fantastic audio courses even more effective!

I was wondering if Natasha Bershadski uses a teaching style identical or highly similar to that of Michel's..?

The courses are released this Friday 28 September so you will be able to hear it yourself at the end of the week.

I've ordered all three. Personally, I'm looking forward to Mandarin as Harold Goodman, the author, was trained by
Michel Thomas for ten years to understand his method of teaching. It says in the covering information that he is
going to teach the tones using hand signals and that it is an effective way of remembering the words. I'm looking
forward to trying it.

Regards

Please report back when you get the new courses. I wonder how they stack up...

The new courses are now out. They are utterly amazing. I would say from what I have heard so far, better than
the original Michel Thomas courses.

billhj2 asked about Russian, I've listened to the Introductory Course, the teacher uses Michel's method but she is
a native speaker of Russian (she has a fantastic English accent). She is obviously a very knowledgeable teacher,
and she has an air of calmness and assuredness about her. I can't wait to receive the rest of the course.

I've also started Mandarin. I love this course. Harold Goodman has a native speaker teaching with him to give a
perfect model for pronunciation. He teaches us the tones first and uses a highly unconventional approach to
make them stick. They really do. Harold has a nice sense of humour too, which he employs to great effect in
delivering this course.

I haven't heard the Arabic Foundation yet as there is a postal strike here in the UK and my copy is stuck in the
post.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!

How far do you think the courses would take you? I have been studying Mandarin for a while and know some of the basics, but perhaps the course would still help? If not, I'll just have to resign to not being able to use the MT courses!

Thanks again,
Alex

I don't know yet as I'm only on CD 2 of 8 but there is likely to be a review CD in January or February which you
could use to revise. An Advanced Course will follow next year so perhaps you might be better waiting. I would
recommend that you do buy the foundation though as the teaching method is so unusual and does use a native
speaker so if nothing else you will hear a cutting edge learning technique and get some good pronunciation
practice.

The method is very lighthearted and goes a really nice pace so I highly commend it to you.

By the way, you will have to order the course thorugh Amazon.co.uk as it is not available from the American
publisher until next year.

Thanks for the review! I probably will end up listening to it, though I may wait for the American, 10-CD version to come out, and to hear what you and others think of the rest of the course. It is too bad about the postal strike...it seems to me they should just pay them a bit more.
