I truly believe MT is the best audio program available for going from zero to intermediate proficiency in a language, in terms of efficiency. I blog about working through his material on a fairly regular basis. At the moment, I'm working through the Italian and German beginner courses, and getting ready to move on to the advanced Italian package. In the end, we must all find the methods that work best for us, whether that's Pimsleur, Assimil, FSI, MT, LiYC, Linguaphone, Teach Yourself, Behind the Wheel - whatever. But for me, this guy was the real deal. I only regret that he never got to making audio packages for the other six languages he spoke. But thankfully, he did make them for Spanish, French, German, and Italian - and I'm becoming living proof that a native English speaker can gain proficiency in each of these languages while using MT as the backbone of his/her audio program regimen. :^)

I've been reading the descriptions - they're available on the MT website - and they seem to be updates to the "old" advanced programs. I think they've discontinued the old editions, and are now selling these new ones, in addition to various condensed or review versions of current material. But for the whole story, check the website.

The new courses are the same ones just repackaged.
The 5 CD course is the same as the old one except there is a CD where they have put all the main grammar points on one 'summary' CD.

One of the best ways to increase your knowledge of something is to explain
or teach it to someone else. The two students on the tapes seem to provide
me that opportunity. While they are fumbling around with a word or
phrase, I am yelling at my CD player, telling them what to say and why.

So do I. The US Army looked into the matter and awarded him the Silver Star for bravery. That is not an award that the Army gives away lightly.

I never thought of turning the students into a learning opportunity like that, not a bad idea.

Lengua,
His French courses packed a “big bang for the buck” compared to many other courses on the market. The Advanced French course in particular was great for mastering the verb tenses. How do the other courses match up in quality to one anther? Are some of his language courses better than the others, for instance is French better than German (at least from what you have tried so far)?
